One day at the KL Bar Auditorium..

I attended one seminar conducted by the KL Bar on franchising, one of my practice areas. The fellow speaker, also an Intellectual Property practioner gave us some pointers and clarification on this topic. It was attended by many lawyers and the auditorium was filled with lawyers.

The sky looked as it was about to pour hence I brought my umbrella along. My umbrella was a gift from my firm, with my firm’s corporate colour and name imprinted on it.

After the talk, it was networking time. I spent some time meeting some new people and also get to know the people that I know better. By the time the seminar finished, it was pouring. Many people were stuck in the building. It was a blessing in disguise as those who stayed on were able to meet new people.
I hung out until the auditorium had to be closed. One of my colleagues retrieved my notes from the room, except for my umbrella. I went in to ask for it.

Me: Did anyone see my umbrella?
Lady: yeah, we put it outside.
(went outside)
Me: Did you see my umbrella?
Man: Yeah! I saw one umbrella but when I shouted whether for the owner, one lawyer came up to me and said it’s his umbrella!!
Me: /(*O*)\ !!!!

I can’t believe a fellow lawyer would steal from another lawyer and put his/her convenience at my expense!

Amigos FC v VI Guys – 3 – 0

Date: 1 December 2007
Venue: Politeknik Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah, Shah Alam

This time round, the Amigos FC had couple of new faces, notably fellow blogger Zhong from http://chzehong.blogspot.com. It also marks one of the highest turn out for Amigos FC with 50% more than the opponent, nicknamed the VI Guys (by us). The VI Guys had no substitutes and had to rely on their 11 players against the beefed up Amigos FC. The Amigos FC looked like they had a sure-win game.

Interesting sight.

Game starting!

Unfortunately, the Amigos FC conceded the first goal during the late first half (three halves were played). In the second half, Amigos FC’s failed to take advantage of their new substitutes and was punished with another goal by the VI Guys.

Corner kick!

Low saving a goal

This game was marred with loads of injuries. Firstly, Amigos FC defender, Thiam knocked off an attack by VI Guys’ striker by ramming into him. The striker fell on the ground and dislocated his shoulder. As a result, he was out of the game. By knocking out the striker, 2 other players from the VI Guys had to accompany the injured striker to the hospital for a check up. VI Guys’ team suddenly reduced to 8 men! We had to loan 3 players to them.

As a result of the loan, new comer, Zhong joined the opposing side as their striker. During the third half, he managed the beat the offside trap and ran towards the goal. According to him on his blog,

Halfway into the 3rd quater, one of our guys crossed a long ball from the left and I beat the offside trap and chased the ball towards the goal. The ball bounced a bit so I had to stretch out pretty far to try to volley the ball over the goal keeper. What I didn’t notice was, the keeper was already right next to me. By the way, the keeper was at least twice my size.
The first thing in my mind was to protect myself, and I seriously thought that I would die. Or at least seriously injured after the collision.
I got up with just a soar shoulder and the keeper, I think his name is Henry, was still lying on the ground. He was struggling to get up as he roll around and he got on his knees, then his nose started bleeding.
In the end he managed to walked out to the stands and we resume the game. The game ended 2 – 0 as I scored the second goal for the unknown team.
After the game, Henry started puking water and he was really in pain. They sent him to hospital straight away.

Our keeper and also team manager, Henry had to be admitted to the ICU and thereafter warded for 2 days. He is now out from hospital and well.

Because I Felt Guilty I Thought It Was Me

My boss
called his team into his room the other day, and we got nervous, worried that
we’d be given more work and reports to do. The past few weeks have been
occupied with numerous reports to prepare.

 Instead, my
boss started explaining to us about ‘time out’. Although the Human Resource (“HR”)
Department accepts that employees can take an hour or two out of the office for
errands or medical visits, it cannot be more than 2 hours or employees must
apply for half-day leave.

 He went on
and on to say that in any event if leave rather not be utilised, we should
obtain a medical certificate (“mc”) from the clinic or hospital.

 I was
sweating in skirt, wondering if he was referring to me. *gulp* Maybe he was
referring to me always running out of the office way before lunch time to run
errands!

 You see,
the other day, I had to visit the doctor before work. I sent a text message to
my boss explaining I would be late as I was at the clinic. Two hours later, I
was still not done as the doctor wanted to run some tests, so I updated him
again.

 By the time
the doctor examined me and scrutinised my tests, it was almost 1pm. I
eventually got my medical leave. And then only did I inform my boss that I
would be on medical leave that day.

 So yeah, I
thought he was referring to me.

 So after
the ‘meeting’ with the team, I sheepishly went to his room and apologised
profusely, and explained that I was sorry the notification that I would be on
medical leave came rather late. I was rather to shed a few tears to show
remorse, but he waved me off and said it was alright. As long as I had a mc, it
was ok.

The reason
he dragged his team to explain the whole thing was because one of my team-mates
had been taken so many time outs through out the year for a million medical
check ups and my boss was therefore displeased. But he didn’t dare to have a
one-to-one talk with her, so he had to take it out on all of us!

Bloody
hell, I was sheepish for nothing.
