Nadeje Cafe @ Melaka

As mentioned in my earlier post, A and I headed to Nadeje cafe to try out their famous Mille Crepe.

According to my colleague, Nadeje has two outlets. One located in Dataran Pahlawan and another one in Plaza Mahkota. I was told that the latter is better but we decided to go to the former asQ it was convenient to us.

The outlet at Dataran Pahlawan is located on the 1st floor. We were greeted with a row of cakes consisting of a variety of Mille Crepe.

It was rather hot as the air condition of the cafe was down. The waiter guided us to a table with two flies perching on the table. We had to shoo the flies ourselves -___-

A asked whether there were any seat that is cooler. The lousy waiter said, “It’s all the same”.

Notwithstanding the lousy service and flies, we ordered a slice of banana chocolate mille crepe and also a slice of original mille crepe.

I must say that Nadeje’s mille crepe is not bad. Some people say that their mille crepe is better than the one served at Food Foundry. However, to me, they taste the same. Perhaps I should try the mille crepe in Plaza Mahkota before judging them. Or perhaps the quality of their mille crepe has deteriorated after the departure of their Chef, Amos. The best mille crepe I tried so far in Malaysia is the one from Shangri-la Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. I’m not sure whether they serve it in one of the cafes in Shangri-la Hotel as I got the cake for free when I became a member of the Shangri-la Rewards Program. Their strawberry mille crepe was awesome!

Tioman Island: Melaka: Donald and Lily’s Corner

We had lunch at one restaurant by the name Donald and Lily’s Corner, one of the well known Peranakan coffee shops in Melaka. Its interior bears a homely environment with many personal ornaments placed around the restaurant.

This restaurant is supposed to be well known for its Nyonya Laksa but unfortunately we came too late and all they had was Cendol and Mee Siam.


The cendol is not bad. It has the usual ingredients such as shaved ice, peanuts and corn. It comes in a small bowl. I think it comes no where near to the cendol served in Restaurant Jonker 88.
As for the Mee Siam. it was almost tasteless and quite dissatisfying.

Nevertheless, I will still come back for the Nyonya Laksa since reviews have given it a thumbs up.
Donald and Lily’s Corner opens everyday from 9am to 4pm except on Monday.

Hajjah Mona Asam Pedas @ Kota Laksamana

We took a break before heading to Taman Kota Laksamana for Asam Pedas Ikan Pari (stingray). Hajjah Mona is within walking distance from Jonker Street. This place was introduced to me by some clubbers I met in Melaka.

Their speciality would be their Asam Pedas Ikan Pari. Just order Ikan Pari and they know what you meant. Within minutes, they will serve you a plate of plain rice and a bowl of asam pedas ikan pari with sauce filled to the brink.

The stingray’s meat is tender and the sauce is sourish and a little bit spicy. It makes me salivate whenever I think about it!


Putu Piring @ Jalan Tengkera


Long queue!

Barely 10 minutes after Assam Pedas, Cris brought us to one place that sells Putu Piring at night. Putu Piring is made of steamed rice flour filled with gula melaka (palm sugar).

What made this place special is the stall itself. The stall is actually in front of the owner’s house. The entrance to their house is wide open.

Since it’s a housing area, parking might be a little bit troublesome. Cris parked his car in front of a house and had two Indian men ‘molesting’ his car. Mmm Suzuki Swiftt…you’re soo hooott..


Cris said this looks like nipples. Many many nipples.

Each piece costs 70cent but I would recommend that one should not eat more than two pieces as you’ll get sick of it after the 1 ½ piece.

Melaka Makan Trip

Cris, Elaine, Leonard, Angeline, Beverly, Fred and I drove down to Melaka for one mission – to eat.

Jonker 88 @ Jonker Street

We decided to give chicken rice balls a skip this time hence we started the marathon at Jonker 88 with Cendol and Baba Laksa. Their cendol is one of the most well known cendol stalls in Melaka. It comes with thinly shaved ice with thick gula melaka (palm sugar) on top.


There’s even durian cendol. Yuck.

Baba Laksa with prawns and fish – fish on the spoon. Looks like used tissues. It tasted good though!

Kedai Satay Xiang Ji @ Jalan Portugis

Just two streets away from Jonker 88, lies Leonard’s favourite shop. He’s been promoting it ever since I knew him.

Kedai Satay Xiang Ji is a shop that sells satay babi (pork satay) and only satay babi. At 55 cents a stick, the owner keeps serving you sticks of pork satay until you tell him to stop.

Unlike the traditional Malay satay, pork satay is quite distinct. It’s not sweet and it’s not something that one will enjoy on their first bite.

However, after a few bites, you just cant stop eating them.

Meat, fat, meat, fat… – The meat on the skewer is arranged in a way where meat and fat would alternate until the top of the skewer.

Shaven Ice (ABC) with Gula Melaka @ Jonker Street, Melaka

After reading Jasmine’s blog, I hunted for the Gula Melaka topped ice kacang (shaven ice) at Jonker Street. According to Jasmine, the place that serves the said dessert is somewhere nearby Explorer cafe.

We found the café easily 😀 It’s on the main road of Jonker.

We have choice of a mixture of cendol and kidney beans or corn and kidney beans. I hate kidney beans.

The abc was EXCELLENT. The Gula Melaka was no ordinary Gula Melaka. It was melted Gula Melaka with gluey texture. Orgasmic I tell you.
The café also has a small Maritime museum with many treasures salvaged from the sea. I particularly like the old coins that were salvaged from sunken ships. They even have a 6th century coin (shaped like a knife) on display!

Limau-limau café @ Jonker’s Walk

For those who are tired of shopping from shopping at Jonker’s Walk, you should visit Limau-limau Café.

It’s a nice café which serves blended fruits and other miscellaneous drinks. Lovely deco too. 😀
I had an ice blended mango smoothies. On the menu, it was stated that no sugar or water will be added in their drinks. Ok sounds healthy.

My mango smoothies was thick and yellow. My first impression was that the drink looks like concentrated mango juice.

I immediately took a sip of it and thereafter my eyes opened wide.
I then mumbled, “mahai.. no taste oneeeeeeeeeee ..”.
It didn’t taste as good as it looks.
Sharon and Cris on the other hand had a better experience. Sharon had a strawberry flavoured ice cream and Cris had a mango flavoured ice cream. It was absolutely yummy I tell you.
