Happy 10th Anniversary to www.xes.cx!

This blog has finally hit a milestone. 10 years old!

10 years ago, never once I thought this blog could last for so long. I must thank my guestbloggers who had kept the blog on going. Of course, long time and current readers must be thanked.

I guess this blog started picking up when my former university house mates started contributing.

Our house in Sheffield. Got ghost one.

Former housesmates.

Friends and strangers started commenting on our blog entries. Soon, I had random strangers coming up to me saying that they read my blog.

Building websites have always been my interest. It all started back in 1997 using a Geocities hosted website, a few GIFs (consisting of characters from the King of Fighters and a bouncing ball) and a guestbook. Dad posted a comment on my guestbook stating somewhere along the lines of, “I like the bouncing ball”.

My earliest blog entry dates back to January 2001. It was during the times of www.xes.net.my, which I had before I registered the xes.cx. Back then, I didn’t know these postings are called as blogposts.

Before all these blog postings, my website served as an online photo album for my friends to see. This blog has gone so public that I am reluctant to post friends’ pictures here.

There were 2 goals that I wanted to achieve during the early days of xes.cx, 1st was to hit 500 unique visitors a day and 2nd was to make money out of it. Both have been achieved long time ago.

The launch of Nuffnang marked the monotization of this blog. I used the money from Nuffnang as down payment for my Mum and my car.

2nd payment from Nuffnang

Of course, this blog has brought me many good things – from meeting many new friends to various media appearance (for a list see About xes.cx page).

Asian Blogger & Social Media Conference @ Times Square Hotel

Thank you all again for the support. Hope this blog will last a lifetime and read by generations thereafter (if I get it in print!).

If there is any of blog entries here that you enjoyed, please feel free to comment.

Malaysia’s Top Ten Hottest Bloggers

Few days ago, a client called me and said, “I didn’t know you’re a blogger! Saw you in a magazine!”.

-______-

I wouldn’t be so embarrassed if it was not a feature in Faces magazine as Malaysia’s Top 10 Hottest Bloggers.

My picture was shot at the bridge of G Tower. It was a small bar with great view of the city.

Before my shoot, I was interviewed and thereafter had make up put on me. My make up artist made me cry. I couldn’t stand having powder in my eyes!

Then I had hairspray all over my hair. I felt like Rosmah.

Rosmah’s Epic Hairstyle. Heh. Bad photoshop.

After hundred over shots of the same pose, we were done. I was the last person to be shot.

Tada! The end results.

There’s a picture of me in Alliance Bank You:nique credit card too!

The other 9 fellow bloggers are as follows:

No 1 Hottest Blogger in Malaysia, Niki Cheong & Ming

Joyce The Fairy & Cindy Tey

Proudduck & Zainal

Tziaa & me

Hanis & Kimberlycun

There are also small blurbs on what are their unusual reader reaction and most interesting post. Mine was this:

I couldn’t think what is my most interesting post hence I merely gave an example of an interesting post I posted (at the time of the interview). Didn’t know it will become THE most interesting post.

As for most unusual reader comment, some of my old readers would remember the commenter iloveu. You can read the post here. Man, I miss those good old days where my readers were interactive.

This is Hanis’ blurb on Most unusual reader reaction. Happened to me once.

Kimberlycun’s one is EPIC!! HAHAH

Lastly… a page on “What are the perks of being a blogger”.

Thanks to Nuffnang for nominating me!

Astro B.yond TVC Commercial

Remember the Astro B.yond TVC that I was talking about? Well, it’s out!

It was first shown in the Astro B.yond Bloggers’ Night. I forgot to bring my camera on that night hence no post about it. -_-

Anyway, here’s the video!

The bloggers that are featured in the TVC are as follows:

Featured on Sin Chew Newspaper!

w00t!

Mum said I look 40 years old here. Perhaps ill look like this when I’m 40.

You can read the article at Sin Chiew’s website or download the article here. It’s a 2 page article posted on the Cyberworld section. I didn’t write the article but I contributed the cases – which took me an hour to compile. I wasn’t expecting anything, probably a small acknowledgment. I didn’t expect my face to be there.

Frankly, I can’t read or write Chinese well. I have a general idea on what was mentioned in the article but not in detail. Aaahh whyyy wasn’t I sent to Chinese schoooolllll…knsss

p/s: got a new client through the article!

My titties is on the newspaper – again

Once again, I got picture of my titties on the newspaper. The first time was about 12 years ago when the Star had a picture of me surfing.

Poser maximum.

Recently, the New Straits Times published an article titled “New Straits Times – Sailing the Andaman” on the Sailing Adventure @ Langkawi. This time round, with bigger picture of my titties. In fact, it looks extremely big.

There are more pictures in the hard copy of the article!

Super distorted picture. I look like a hippo having a dip in a river.

Read more about it here!

The Star Newspaper finally published the story about the Smirnoff Two New Flavours One Launch Party @ Sanctuary, The Curve Shopping Centre which I attended with fellow blogges Shaolin Tiger, Suanie and Kimfluttersby. Many thanks to ThaiBoxingGirl, Kimberlycun & Mypartners for the publicity.

New flavours for vodka
By K.W. MAK

MALAYSIAN nightlife just got more exciting with the launch of the two new Smirnoff flavoured vodkas at the Sanctuary, The Curve last month.

The new flavours – Green Apple and Vanilla – were introduced during an exclusive party for Smirnoff enthusiasts.

“Smirnoff’s new lines of flavoured vodkas are highly versatile when it comes to mixing, and they are easy on the palates hence making it fun to drink,” said DIAGEO Brands Manager Shirley Chan.

An exclusive treat: (From left) Chan with the bloggers, Foong, Kim Ong, Suanie and Gareth.

“This distinctive characteristic will resonate most with young achievers who are adventurous and fun individuals, always on the lookout for new and original offerings.”

The signature cocktails concocted from the new flavours were Apple Breeze Martini, Pineapple Apple Dava, Vanilla Cola and Twisted Cream.
The crowd gave their thumbs up for the new flavours when the drinks were . Four bloggers that helped spread the word of the new flavours prior to the launch were also treated to an exclusive tasting session of yet to be released Smirnoff flavoured vodkas in the ice-room.
The chill in the room, at -15 degree Celsius, could not dissuade the bloggers from gamely posing for photos with the drinks.

The bloggers, Gareth (www.shaolintiger.com), Kim Ong (www.xanga.com/kimfluttersby), Suanie (www.suanie.net) and Foong (www.xes.cx), were treated to the full range of Smirnoff Vodka flavours of raspberry, citrus and orange.
[Note: ShaolinTiger is huge!!]

Vodka enthusiasts can look forward to the addition of all Smirnoff vodkas on the shelves of Duty Free Stores, major hypermarkets and night entertainment venues such as, Sanctuary, Zouk and The Loft (Asian Heritage Row). The retail price is RM145 for each 70cl bottle.

Blog enthusiasts collect clues in a race to win Malaysian Grand Prix party invitations.

By NASA MARIA ENTABAN

IT’S amazing what some people would do to get special invites to a Malaysian Grand Prix party.

Avid bloggers and blog-readers hunted high and low in a race that began in the physical world, which then moved on to cyberspace, before they ended up racing to a physical finish line.

The event, dubbed “Spot The Raving Blogger” began on March 1 and will culminate at one of Kuala Lumpur’s most prominent landmarks, the KL Tower.

Nigel Low, 31 (second from right) was one of the first participants to show up at the ‘Spot the Raving Blogger’ race, which had contestants hunting clues that would lead them to a final meeting point. Low won himself passes to the official Malaysian Grand Prix party at the KL Tower.

On the first day of the race, participants were given a clue in The Star that identified a local blogger. On that individual’s blog, more clues were posted which directed the participants to other blogs, over the course of 10 days.

The last clue, which read, “A coffee house in the new wing of 1-Utama” led the participants to a final location – Starbucks Coffee at 1-Utama Shopping Complex where the five bloggers were waiting to be identified at 1.45pm.

Race participants reached the location panting, after they had run all around the shopping complex in search of the right outlet. The first 50 participants to arrive each won passes to the Speedzone Tour 2007, the official Malaysian Grand Prix party.

“I think this event is a fun way to give out passes, instead of the usual slogan-writing contests,” one of the featured bloggers, Suanie (www.suanie.net), said. “The clues are a new and interesting way to get people to join in.”

The five bloggers were selected based on the popularity of their blogs as well as their blog themes.

Suanie, who has been blogging for several years, usually writes on music, lifestyle and clubbing – which made her an ideal candidate for the contest.

The others who were involved were food blogger KY, 29 (www.kyspeaks.com); lawyer Xes, 26 (www.xes.cx); accountant Fireangel, 27 (www.fireangelism.com); and karate practitioner Gareth, better known as Shaolin Tiger, 28 (www.shaolintiger.com).

One of the race participants, Nigel Low, followed the clues all the way and was thrilled to win the free passes.

“I’m also glad I’m finally getting to know the bloggers in person,” the 31-year-old human resource manager said. “This contest is a very interesting and new way of doing things.”

Low is one of the many people who will be partying at the KL Tower terrace event, on April 7, which will feature local DJ extraordinaire Joey G alongside international DJs such as D-formation, Marco V and Yoji Biomehanika.

I told some of my friends about it and their first reaction was:
“WHY IS YOUR PHOTO NOT IN THE NEWSPAPER??”

Blogs that have loads of love

The advent of blogs has created another alternative for people to express their love.

First, we have blogs that express love to their loved ones such as ickleoriental.net

Then there are blogs that expresses their love to food such as fishfish who went to the extreme to study food science.

Not forgetting those blogs relating to animals such as Furkids in Hong Kong

Also, a blog whose blogger expresses her love for cheese by using words relating to Cheese. Her creativity has lead to the creation of words ranging from Cheeserland to Cheesus Crust. Cheesebye not included.

And also a blog whose blogger expresses his love for drugs, i mean his love to teach the public about the effect of drugs. Our very own sixthseal.com

also love for female bloggers O_O

and also, a 17 years old boy expressing his love to….

another boy. WTF!!! WHAT THE FISH!! WHAT THE FISH FISH FISH!!!

Ok calm down..calm damn. Nevertheless, I applaud his bravery to ‘come out’ at such a young age. He even has the guts to tell his parents about it. If I were to do so when I was 17 years old, I might not have parents today. All the best Colin and Kero!

The fake xes

Dear readers,

www.xes.cx wishes to express our gratitude towards those who made Mr. xxess realise his mistakes especially those who have commented on our website and his website. (See http://www.xes.cx/MT/archives/2005/10/copyright_infri.html for background info)

Mr. xxess of http://xxess.blogdrive.com/ (now removed) has sent us an email apologizing for his conduct.

To spice up the drama, here’s the email he sent to Frank and I.

dear mR.XeS aND Mr.Wong

im the guy who copied most of your site all way long…..here i set up all of my apologise to you and your members..especially mR.Frank… congratulations!!…finally you and your frens found me..i know copying without permission of the owner is a true infringement…but thers sumthing that pulls me in-to doing dis…

1- the ideas is too “bernas (creative)” , open minded and “up to date”
2- practising in dealing with htmlzz
3- idont really have muc time to come out wit my own original stuff ..finishing too much st**** “outstanding assignments” is a struggle.
4- sharing your stuffs wit my frens..sharing is caring..rite?
5- to expand xes’s empire…

yela..sape tak bengang (anyone would be pissed)…whose not piss’d when u get other people having the respect of wat youre doing?..like isaid..sorry is all i can say…

Though he has apologized, Frank and I wish to issue a reply to his email especially on the reasons he made for copying our website.

1. the ideas is too “bernas (creative)” , open minded and “up to date”
Thank you but that doesn’t justify the reason for ripping our posts and made them as your own.

2. practising in dealing with htmlzz
Copying our design and html codes is fine. But using images that xes has created is totally outrages.

3. idont really have muc time to come out wit my own original stuff ..finishing too much st**** “outstanding assignments” is a struggle.
Both Frank and xes are practising lawyers and yet we still have time to think of something to post everyday. Do you think finishing assignments take more time than us dealing with our cases everyday?

4. sharing your stuffs wit my frens..sharing is caring..rite?
The proper way to share our stuff is to post our link on your website or credit our work on your website which in fact, is something you didn’t do.

5. to expand xes’s empire…
This is bullshit. How can you expand xes’s empire when you don’t even credit www.xes.cx for the stuff that you have ripped?

We find that all your reasons are invalid. But we find no point pursuing this matter anymore.

www.xes.cx wishes to express a big thank you to all our readers and a big fuck you to xxess.

Cheers
xes & frank

NOTE WRITTEN BY FRANK:

In the Spirit of Hari Raya, We forgive xxess’s doing. However, it will be splendid if xxess can write us an apologie message to us. Selamat Hari Raya Aldifitri to xxess. =)
