The state of Terengganu has passed the controversial Islamic law. The state, controlled by the opposition fundamentalist Islamic party (PAS), has passed the Islamic law with minor adjustments. The enactment introduces Quranic punishments for six types of offences: theft, robbery, illicit sex (including incest and sodomy), false accusation of illicit sex, drinking liquor and apostasy. The punishments include the amputation of limbs, death by stoning, whipping and jail.The enactment would apply to all Muslims over the age of 18 who commit offences in Terengganu. Non-Muslims may opt to be covered by it.
