This Christmas

There was a time where my Christmas eve was spent in a club waiting for the clock to hit 12am. This year was a little bit different, I celebrated Christmas eve at Melvin’s house with a bunch of friends and good food. We were served with scrumptious lip smacking turkey, ribs, pasta and not forgetting Melvin’s special baked potato bacon cheese. I heard the turkey costs more than RM100.

Turkey & Cranberry sauce

Served with their best cutleries
We ate so much until we felt like exploding. After the dinner, wine and liquor were served. Melvin whipped out his Greygoose and Blue Label for everyone. Many were red faced throughout the night.

One of our friends’ Mum joined us for dinner as well. She had a share of one of HHH’s old antics e.g. the hamster story. The hamster story, which I blogged somewhere in 2005, went like this..

One day, D, a friend of mine, was getting ready for school.
It was wee hours in the morning and everyone was still sleeping…except for his little sister’s hamsters…
He then devised and evil plot… which is.. fart at his sister’s hamsters.
He proceeded to do so and let off a loud fart…
    *pooottttt* *blargh*
    D: oh shit!!!
He accidentally shat on his sister’s hamsters!!
    See http://www.xes.cx/MT/archives/2005/08/pooooot_blargh.html

My friend’s Mum laughed so hard until she had tears in her eyes.
As for Christmas day, for the first time in many years, Timothy didn’t have his annual Christmas dinner at his house. Every year, my Christmas day is booked for this special occasion. Nevertheless, to make it up for the empty schedule, my high school friends and I met up for dinner at Restaurant 88 at Happy Garden. We had lip smacking seafood, taufu and vegetable.

After the dinner, we headed to Hana of Roppongi Hill @ Desa Sri Hartamas, a new Izakaya Japanese bar & restaurant behind Devis’ corner aka Doris’s Corner. The place is nicely decorated with excellent interior.
And we went to the new bar in…

slippers and short pants. O_o
We played dice and drinking games throughout the night. After 4 jugs, we headed home as many had to work the next day.
Sekian laporan. Terima Kasih.

Ian Fleming’s James Bond Stamps

Well, it’s almost Christmas and many activities are going on lately. Unfortunately, I don’t have anything to blog other than stamps.

The Royal Mail recently launched a special stamps issue to commemorate the centenary of the birth of James Bond creator, Ian Fleming, as well as the 50th anniversary of the publication of Dr No, the first Bond novel to be filmed. The books illustrated in the stamps are Casino Royale, Dr No, Goldfinger, Diamonds are Forever, For Your Eyes Only and From Russia with Love.

Although these stamps are available for purchase now, these stamps would only be dispatched on January 2008. I bought mine already, together with Christmas stamps! 😀

December Events

Well, it’s end of the year hence many events are popping up like mushrooms. www.xes.cx is proud to have organisers of Speedzone and Midzone Countdown 2008 to giving out free tickets.
Other than the aforementioned events, there are two (2) other events which caught my attention.
David Morales @ Poppy Garden, Kuala Lumpur
Date: 22.12.2007
Venue: Poppy Garden, 18-1, Jalan P.Ramlee, Kuala Lumpur.

It’s been a while since I saw David Morales. I remember he had a gig at the old Emporium once. It was packed like a can of sardine.

Next we have an event organised by my friends in Miri, Sarawak.

Midzone Countdown 2008 @ The Boulevard, Mid Valley City – 31 December 2007

Those who started off clubbing in the late 1990s and early 2000s would definitely heard of Movement KL. Movement is a club located in an old cinema along Jalan Bukit Bintang.

Those were the days where clubs were open until wee hours in the morning. I miss the times where my friend and I would take a break from the club and have drinks at the Chinese restaurant next to it. To those who didn’t have the chance to visit Movement during its glory days, you’ve probably missed one of the most spacious clubs in Kuala Lumpur with excellent sound system and huge raves with international acts in the weekend. Superstar DJs such as DJ Sasha, John Digweed, Gatecrasher and Paul van Dyke once played in this superb club.
This club has probably revolutionized the dance culture in Malaysia.
Unfortunately, in January 2002, the club was destroyed in a fire. It is now a car park.

I remember there was one New Years eve where I spent the entire night up on a 15 feet speaker in Movement because the club was extremely packed. If I’m not mistaken, Josh Wink was spinning.
But now, gone were the days where we have to countdown in a sardine packed club. On 31 December 2007, one can head to The Boulevard @ Mid Valley City! MidZone Countdown 2008 is the MOST ANTICIPATED New Year Eve celebration in Kuala Lumpur. A FIRST to marry choreographed fireworks display with pulsating dance, and it is Fireworks Artistry at its Best !
Featuring a line-up of International DJs – DJ Stoneface & Terminal (Euphonic, Germany), DJ Matthew White (Hungary) and VJ SORT (Kagawa, Japan) and many more.

SpeedZone Tour 2007 presents the scorching World Grand Prix Champions Party!
GP’s biggest party adds a new stop to celebrate 2007’s F1 and MotoGP Champions

    Kuala Lumpur – Wednesday, 28 November 2007
Partygoers have a very special event to look forward to on 29th December as SpeedZone Tour includes a new addition to their 2007 calendar – a first-ever World Grand Prix Champions Party! In a scorching double celebration of team Ferrari’s and Ducati’s monumental F1 and MotoGP wins, Malaysia’s favourite hotspot, Zouk will set ablaze as SpeedZone showcases a very, special deejay, the 24-year old wunderkind JAMES ZABIELA.
A technical wizard and with a love of all things sci-fi, JAMES ZABIELA is at the forefront of new DJ/production talent smashing the glass ceiling of the global superstars. He’s played to a room full of suited Japanese businessmen when showcasing Pioneer’s latest equipment, in front of 60,000 people in South America and just about every imaginable situation in-between. And this time ZABIELA will be taking time off from his residency at Ibiza’s world famous club, Space and Pacha – New York, to make his very first stop of his Asian tour in Kuala Lumpur!
From the beginnings of winning a bedroom DJ competition to being recently awarded the ‘Best British DJ’ at the DJ Mag DJ Awards and ranked #17 in the DJ Mag Top 100 DJ Poll, ZABIELA showcases a style, which is at the same time trippy, bleepy and downright groovy, with a few gnarly basslines thrown in for good measure. ZABIELA’s unique style has been recently borrowed by the likes of Jay-Z who famously integrated it into his signature sound.
Set to close the year 2007 in style, JAMES ZABIELA will blaze the night at SpeedZone as he plays a 3-hour set of truly nuclear proportions. Joining ZABIELA will be SpeedZone’s favourite DJ, Joey G of Channel [V] fame, who will set the pace for clubbers in his own patented way, showing why he’s the best at what he does as he creates the setting for a truly monstrous main set.
The fever of SpeedZone’s World Grand Prix Champions Party begins on 3 December 2007, as partygoers vie for the chance to win 500 FREE tickets by registering on www.speedzonetour.com. Sports Planet @ Sg Buloh

Ever since my good friend Melvin Kang graduated from university as an engineer, he never had a real job. For the past year, he was seen bumming around from morning till the next morning. Occasionally I would tell him, “GET A JOB!!”.

However, he lived beyond our expectation. He now creates jobs! Yet another young entrepreneur in the market! Single and available too!
He and his partners acquired the rights from Sports Planet to operate an indoor futsal court at Sg Buloh. It’s more than futsal, one can play badminton there too!

(Click for larger image)

Last week, I received a SMS from him stating “Hi friends, Sport Planet Sg Buloh (10 mins drive from 1utama) is opening Monday (10/12). FREE play all week. 4 Extreme turf Futsal pitches & 6 badminton courts. Futsal will be reading for testing tmr (sat 8/12). Exclusively for friends only! Pls call me (Melvin) or 03-6157 2136 for booking.”

A day later, Ping received a SMS with the identical content the words “Exclusively for friends only!” removed from a friend who doesn’t know Melvin! It seems that his SMS got modified.

Upon receiving the SMS, Ping made booking for futsal on Monday and badminton on Tuesday!

Other than KF, waterleg, Hyong, Ping and myself, fellow blogger Zhong and friends were invited to play as well.

Sport Planet Sg Buloh is only 10 minutes away from 1 Utama.

Nevertheless, one must be vigilant and take note of all the landmarks provided in the map otherwise one would end up lost (like me). The place is located in an industrial area, hence don’t be surprised if you find the road quiet at night. By the way, the turf is not visible from the main road. Look out for the signboard.

After playing 2 hours there, I find that the turf was at excellent condition and the place was sufficiently ventilated and lighted.

There’s ample of parking space too.

There are 4 futsal turfs (grass) and 6 badminton courts. The turf and badminton courts are available until 2am daily. Free play until 15 December 2007! Call 03-6157 2136 for booking!

Pork Noodles @ Kedai Kopi D.U, Damanasara Uptown

One of my newest makan hangout is Kedai Kopi D.U (Edit: Now known as Mang Chuan Kik). My favourite stall would be the the stall which serves pork noodles. The taste of their noodles and soup are quite distinct.

Other than pork noodles, the said stall serves pan mee (home made noodles).

I would highly recommend that the dry version be ordered so that one can enjoy the noodles and soup separately.
