Back from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

Back from Kota Kinabalu!
Congrats to Justin and Joey on their wedding. It was beautiful .The garden reception by the beach with a small cabana puts the icing on this wedding. I can’t wait to see the wedding pictures by Anna-Rina.
Anyway, the trip was excellent. We ate and ate non stop. I managed to try many of the famous local dishes within 4 days. Unfortunately, due to the Chinese New Year break, many shops were not open. I didn’t manage to try the famous Roti Kahwin as the well known shop was closed for Chinese New Year.
Kota Kinabalu (KK), the capital of Sabah, is a city with half a million people. The lifestyle is slow and calm – makes you want to retire now and stay there forever. However, the place is heavily commercialised. You can see famous retail chains such as Starbucks and Coffee Bean in every corner. There’s also couple of Big Apple Donuts around.
Shopping centres are springing like mushrooms over KK. There are probably more than 10 malls and they are also building one huge shopping centre by the name 1 Borneo. In the Klang Valley, we have a huge shopping centre by the name 1 Utama. Not sure whether or not they are related.
Here are some pictures of KK city.

I saw this soft drink machine at one shopping centre in KK city. It’s a Gardenia soft drink machine!
Gardenia is well known for its pre-packaged bread products. When I told my Kuala Lumpur friends that Gardenia sells soft drinks, they didn’t believe me until I showed them the above picture. I didn’t manage to try any of them. I wonder how does it taste like..hmmm..like bread flavoured soft drink???
I briefly browsed through their website at http://www.gardenia.com.my/products.html and I don’t see any soft drinks listed in their products section. By looking at the above picture, I could see that they have cola, sohai bean, orange, winter melon, grass jelly, root beer, green tea and ice cream soda.
Has anyone tried this before??
