While having lunch with Adrian and A at Village Park, we decided to make a trip to Seremban for their famous roast crab for dinner. It was an impromptu plan.
We left KL around 645pm and reached Seremban in 50 minutes. Finding the place was rather easy. Check out the map below.
I initially though the place would be packed with people but there were plenty of seats.
Introducing the first meal!
Lai Liu Har. Tasty but not crispy enough.
Few minutes later, our main star of the night. Roasted crab!
Served with a faded green plate.
1kg of crab costs us RM40. It was covered with yummy marmite sauce.
And a spicy sourish sauce for us to dip our crab 😀
1 1/2kg was not enough for 3 for us. We ordered another KG. I was soooo full!!
After our cholesterol raising meal, we walked to a dessert shop nearby.
I wish this place existed when I studied in Taylor’s College. This place serves awesome desserts and only desserts.
Its located on the 2nd floor of a shop house facing Asia Cafe. It’s a small shop and usually pack with people. Quite difficult to get a spot.
Queue to order is pretty long usually. However, meals are not served on the spot. A customer will be given an ‘UFO’.
It will beep when the meal is ready 😀
My personal favourite would be the “Best Seller” (Shaven ice + Grass Jelly + Grass Jelly Ice + Taroballs + Creamer) (RM6)
The orange colour stuff is called taroballs. They’re great! Chewy with tinge of yam/sweet potato in it 😀

This entry marks the last entry of my New York City 2010 series. Finally!
Cafe Sabarsky
I found this place through the recommendation of Yelp (popular social media website in the US). I was searching for a good place to eat around the Met Museum and this place was highly recommended by some people.
This Viennese café is located inside the Neue Galerie’s museum. The cafe is not visible from outside but you can see it once you enter the museum.
Although the cafe is quite small, the atmosphere was really, really nice.
Sabarsky Heiße Schokolade (House made Viennese Hot Chocolate with
Whipped Cream) :D~~~~~~~~
Bratwurst mit Sauerkraut & Röstkartoffeln (Roasted Sausage with Riesling Sauerkraut, Roasted Potatoes & Dijon). Izz zoooo zesmalllll
Apple strudel here is highly recommended. Looks awesome. Unfortunately, I am not a big fan of cooked fruits. Hence the apple strudel tasted so-so for me.
On my last night in New York City, Raymond said he will bring me to a place to eat burger. He brought us to an office building and I was wondering where could this burger place be. He then lead us to one small corridor and voila! a burger joint! It is tucked in a small part of Le Parker Meridien!
The interior, of course, was not fantastic. In fact, it was quite messy. The walls were scribbled with writings and there were left over food strewed here and there. We even had to clean the place ourselves.
However, the burgers were awesome! Many thanks again to Raymond for buying us supper!
According to many reviews, Burger Joint serves one of the best burgers in the city. Do try it out when you’re in NYC!
Sarah brought me to this place on my last day in New York City. According to her, this is a “crew joint”. That means a place frequent by steward and stewardesses.
The reason she brought me here was to try out this restaurant’s breakfast set. She said the food is good and huge. I usually have no problem in eating large meals but the breakfast in Brooms brought me down to my knees. It was huge!!
I had this breakfast set called Lumberjack – came with pancakes, eggs and bacon. There were 3 slides of pancakes and the pancakes were as big as capati!!
After my second piece of pancake, I surrendered. My “bottomless stomach” does have its limits. Those who wishes to try this, I would recommend you to share it with a friend unless you’re 130KGs.
I found this place while roaming randomly around Penang. The first thing that caught my attention was their signboard stating, “Mama One Ton Mee – since 1960”. The words “Since 1960” caught my attention. If they’ve been around so long, they must be good!
Mama One Ton Mee is located at Lorong Susu. It’s a small shop that serves solely wan tan mee but with a few variety. It seems that they specialize in wan tan mee.
I decided to depart from the usual Penang hawker food i.e char kuey teow and prawn mee and choose wan tan mee instead. I’ve never seen anyone raving about Penang wan tan mee.
I ordered roasted pork wan tan mee.
It was not bad! The noodles very springy and the dumplings were tasty!
I did a search on the internet and I was surprised that I couldn’t find any local blogs talking about this place. The only website that I found was actually Japanese blog. Check it out here
It is just a street away from Lorong Selamat. If you’re tired of the usual fried kuey teow and cendol, do head to Lorong Susu for awesome Wan Tan Mee!
On the next day, Raymond brought us to another awesome place for dessert – the famous Junior’s cheesecake. They’ve been around since 1950s and they have few branches all over NYC. Raymond brought us to the one at Times Square. In fact, it was so good that I went to Junior’s twice!
I would highly recommend the plain cheesecake. It’s quite big hence sharing is recommended.
Red velvet is good as well.
Devil’s Food Cheesecake was too rich for me. I was full after half a piece of this thing.

Timothy Tiah, fourfeetnine and I found this place by chance while waiting for our play to start. It is a small Japanese restaurant. Chefs were Japanese and one of them even visited Malaysia!
Food was fresh. Service was good. Price was reasonable. Place was cozy. It was perfect. What else more can you ask for?
I tried ordering my meal through Japanese. It’s been a while since I spoke Japanese. I managed to order my meal but the lady thought I was some second generation Japanese that cant speak proper Japanese -_-
For the past few years, I read numerous articles about Ah Weng Koh Hainan Tea (阿荣哥海南茶档) – on how great the place is. So last Monday, I made a trip to Ah Weng Koh for breakfast. My usual breakfast Yut Kee is closed on Monday hence it gave me an opportunity to explore other kopitiams.
Finding the place was a task. I’ve no idea where Imbi Market is and my Google Map wasn’t of much help. After going round and round for half an hour, I found the bloody market – only to find it is closed. NIAMAAAAAAAAAAAA!!
After complaining on Facebook, someone told me that Monday is usually a day off for Hainanese.
Not wanting to give up, I made another trip to Ah Weng Koh for breakfast on the next day. It was open!
Ah Weng Koh is actually a small hawker stall which shares a common area with other stalls. Finding a place to sit was quite easy. I found a spot right in front of the stall.
I ordered Hainanese coffee, toasted bread and half boiled eggs.
Coffee came in a big mug. Very aromatic and not too sweet.
My toasted polo buns – slapped with a generous amount of kaya and also a cold slice of butter. Very tasty but fattening. The outer layer was crunchy whereas the inner layer was soft!
Next contender! Half boiled eggs in a stainless steal mug with hot water inside! Had to wait for a while for my half boiled eggs to get cooked!
It was a little bit difficult to eat the half boiled egg as the heat of the egg was burning my fingers. It tasted too as well, comparable with my other favourite half boiled egg places namely Yut Kee, Pappa Rich and Village Park.
The only downside off this place is the heat. Ventilation is poor and there is no fan to cool you down. I was sweating like a pig there.
Imbi Market is just a few metres away from Pasar Rakyat. Parking space is ample. You may park by the roadside or pay RM2 for private parking.
Timothy Tiah, as usual, was feeling generous and decided to treat me and a few of us for dinner @ Mandarin Grill and MO Bar @ Mandarian Oriental, Kuala Lumpur.
Mandarin Grill is a new dining venue of Mandarin Oriental. It serves a variety of Western and and local dishes. So western till you have guai lou chefs cooking for you.
The service was excellent. From time to time, we had free food on our table – complements from the chef.
I’m not a food connoisseurs and thus I am not able to describe how good was the food. Nevertheless, I will try to describe the food ahbeng Old Klang Road 58200 style!
I ordered the 1824 Australian grain-fed, 120-day-aged 25o-gram tenderloin which costs around RM100++ pursuant to the recommendation of EatDrinkKL.
I get to choose a knife of my choice!
I wonder what does 120-day aged means, does that mean that the cow lived 120 days before it got slaughtered or it was slaughtered 120 days ago? Well, if it died 120 days ago or not, the steak was tender and awesome!
Even the salt was out of the ordinary. It had 3 types of flavour – vanilla, wasabi and durian. I’m just kidding. I can’t remember what they were.
The most expensive steak on the menu was the Master Wahyu steak. It was around RM500++ \(*O*)/ I can eat Pappa Rich for more than a month!
Interior was nice. The hot chick in the photo made it nicer!
fourfeetnine had the Wagyu beef burger Rossini. It is topped with foie gras, porcini mushrooms & truffle mayo. Check out how the french fries were stacked! Ada styleeeeeeeeee!
Tim and 4feet9
For dessert, we had their Hazelnut Crème Brulée (my favourite!) and Mango Cheesecake. Hazelnut Crème Brulée was topped with blueberries and sorbet. However, the Crème Brulée looked like dried hardened curry to me. However, it tasted awessooome!
Mango Cheese Cake on the other hand was so-so.
The bill came up to RM1200++ for 6 of us. Timothy‘s wallet bleed badly. RM132 came from our gold-filtered-nuclear-powered water. fourfeetninesaid it must have came from an extinct mountain.
Nevertheless, I had a great time there. Looking forward to go there again on company’s expenses!! hohohohoho!
Those with a fat wallet who are interested to go, you may call +6(03) 2179 8960 to make a reservation. The dresscode is smart casual. T-shirt and jeans are acceptable. As a tip, order a drink if you don’t want to pay RM132 for water.
Lintas Square is a small commercial zone just few minutes away from Kota Kinabalu City. It is located within the residential area and it is a treasure trove of good KK food. These are the few places that I would recommend to fellow visitors.
Kedai Kopi Melanian
When I first read the signboard of the restaurant, I thought the place was Kedai Kopi Melamine.
This restaurant is well known for its sang yuk mee. In KL, its commonly known as chu yuk fun. Basically, its pork noodles.
We ordered the dry version of the noodles and I must say this in CAPS. IT WAS BLOODY GOOD!
The noodles came with very thick sauce. The bowl of soup came with pieces of soft and tender pork slices and also few pieces of nice pork balls. The soft and tender pork slices is my personal favourite. I could eat this everyday.
Before
After – gobbled up everything!!!
Must come back to this place when I’m back in KK again!
This restaurant also serves awesome sang yuk mee. The taste is almost identical to the sang yuk mee served at Kedai Kopi Melanian. Its open for dinner unlike Melanian which closes by dawn.
The noodles is also served with very thick sauce. The bowl of soup comes with pieces of soft and tender pork slices, a few pieces of nice pork balls and also ‘wantan’. You may customise your soup by adding other stuff like ‘pig’s spare parts’.
Yoyo Cafe recently moved from their small premise to a bigger premise in the newest block of Lintas Plaza. It now boost a 2 storey cafe. Yoyo Cafe is well known for its Bubble Tea but I recently discovered that their mini Croissant is awesome. It costs RM5 for 100g which is about 5 pieces. The outer layer is crispy and the fillings melt in your mouth!
Nanyang Rich is a newly established Chinese coffeeshop located at Old Klang Road. The name Nanyang Rich is very similar with Pappa Rich, a well known chain of Chinese Coffeeshop in the Klang Valley.
The logo is somehow very similar as well to Pappa Rich’s logo. Both also got man sipping something.
Some people asked me whether I am an ambassador of Pappa Rich due to my constant tweets about them. No, I am not their official ambassador but I would love to have them as my client!
Anyway, I made a trip to Nanyang Rich to try out their stuff. Initially I was reluctant to go. I drove pass the place couple of times and the place doesn’t seem to have any customers.
With no customers = no consumption of raw materials = leftover stocks = possible stale stock = possible food poisoning.
Notwithstanding the risk of ‘bombing’ the toilet bowl whole day, I braved to Nanyang Rich for breakfast.
The interior is quite similar with Pappa Rich. The only thing that lacked was customers. I was the only customer there!
Immediately after settling down, a waiter came up to me and said, “Remember me? I used to work in Pappa Rich!”. -_-
He then said, “your usual right? steamed bread, coffee and half boiled eggs?”. I was impressed!
The selection of food and beverages are quite similar with Pappa Rich. In fact, my steamed bread, coffee and half boiled eggs tasted quite similar to the ones at Pappa Rich. Nanyang Rich is like a cheaper version of Pappa Rich!
Then now comes the issue whether Pappa Rich can successfully sue Nanyang Rich for passing off and copyright infringement. I am not sure whether Pappa Rich has initiated any action against Nanyang Rich but I think if they did they would have a high chance of success. Although Nanyang Rich may rely on the case of McDonalds v McCurry case, I am of the view that the case is distinguishable.
McCurry!
In the Court of Appeal judgement of McDonalds v McCurry case, it was stated that, among others, McDonalds and McCurry serve different type of food and the type of customers patronising them are different from each other. In the present case, Pappa Rich and Nanyang Rich serve the same type of food and their potential customers seem to be the same. It would be interesting to see a legal action in this case.
However, with the amount of customers at Nanyang Rich, I am afraid that they will die a natural death before Pappa Rich can do anything.
