Last Summit Climbing Competition

Our playground of 6 years has finally called it quits. This was ended with a climbing competition dubbed “The last Summit Climbing Gym Competition”.

Free shirt for climbers!
It’s been a while since we saw the gym filled with people. For the past few months, it was only few groups of regulars are seen in the gym. Looks like everyone came to bid Nomad Climbing Gym @ Summit Shopping Centre goodbye. It’s sad to leave this place.

Jangaaaan jattuuuhhh aaaa!

Score sheet – 20 routes to finish.

Fai – center of attention.

Tetek soon in the background and his “” bottle

Which 1 is bigger? Anna-Rina‘s camera? Anna-Rina‘s head? Anna-Rina‘s biceps?

Iguana pun ada

Street performance pun ada..

I arrived just in time to catch the men’s open bouldering competition with Ms. Canness joining the men’s open because there was no women’s open bouldering competition. She managed to wallop half of the male contestants.

Canness – looks like someone just cum chalk all over all.
As for non contestants, like me, we wandered around catching up with other climbers who haven’t been to the gym for ages. Many came with their dSLR to take pictures. Some of us ended up playing chor tai tee.

After the men’s open competition ended, the wall was opened to the public for the dyno and campus competition.

The Summit Climbing Gym Crew
Anna-Rina, Bangxin and Fai managed to win themselves a medal. It came with a goodie bang with nice stuff.

Things you do with your medals..

With Nomad Climbing Gym closing its doors, we have no choice but to head to Camp 5 which charges an exorbitant amount for entry. Our alternative, Deltarovers gym, was destroyed in a fire last year. I pray that a new gym will come soon!

  1. it’s just sad the place is closing down, it looks like you guys had a lot of fun there. really everything also got ah hehe. Look at Anna Rina’s biceps!!

  2. Mini Market-Research Survey…
Xes in his post mentioned that the CAMP5 prices are exorbitant. I would like to know how much you climbers out there are willing to pay monthly for a gym of CAMP5 standard (its currently RM 1088 per annum or RM 90.70 per month)???
Please state a fair price that you believe will deliver the facilities that you think is up to standard (e.g. CAMP5). This is valuable information for me to help develop sport-climbing gyms in Malaysia.
(Chen Leong, can help me get your climbing readers to respond, thanks)

  3. i am ok with RM20.
i want a place that i can enjoy climbing and company. surveillance climbs are not fun.
C5 has a lot of facilities that Delta and Summit lack and vice versa.
    i miss my second home.

  4. camp was have good facilities, it have top rope, lead climb, boulder, auto belay, artificial rock and good clean toilet…but we need some freedom climb such as no ppl nag when some lose chalk out, or those ppl stare at for ur mistake…and this from ah fai…”topless climbing” that what our motive is climb hard and show some body muscle…hahaha

  5. RM20 is ok considering the facilities are good and the staff are friendly and helpful.
I think what makes a good climbing gym is
    1. Facilities (parking/climbing alternatives – lead, boulder and top roping)
    2. Convenient (Location)
    3. Price
    4. Friendliness of staff (climbing is an encouraging sport, so the staff must also be encouraging)

  6. Thanks guys, keep them coming…..
Xes & Mike Tee: RM 20- +/-….. sounds reasonable.
Abner: The key here is social sport. A place to enhance friendships. Thanks
Ping: Yes, I agree, climbing muscle is one of the motivations and display of dynamism to the sport. It gives the participants of the sport a purpose.
Cris: Your points are very valuable. Thanks
Since the beginning of the year, we(the team)have been working extremely hard to plan and build a gym on par with world standards, we hope that things go to plan. In the mean time, I need a lot of feedback to plan a fully functional and friendly gym.
Please keep your fingers crossed that this project is realised….
Please leave me more feedback on what you fellow climbers think your ideal climbing gym should have….. Cheers guys.

  7. AhLokKor,
Since the ball is rolling, may i suggest a chillout area too that serves “power” food (muesli, yoghurt, sandwiches, pancakes…), fruit juices and stuff.
Occasional midnite/extended climbing hours would be warmly welcomed.

  8. cris…staff still the same la…still disturbing and annoying…just got some bad advice from them….wanna know more sunday i let u know.better dowan comment ere
