Timothy Tiah & fourfeetnine’s Wedding

I remember when I first spoke to Timothy. Nuffnang just started and he asked me to be part of Nuffnang to help out on legal matters. I immediately took up his offer without hesitation. At that time, I had the same idea of having a blog advertising network but since Timothy has started it, I abandoned my idea and took up his offer. Now Nuffnang has grown into a multinational company with presence all around Asia.

I also remember when I asked Timothy on when is he getting married to fourfeetnine. He said, “Not so fast la!”. But shortly after that the famous meme proposal video came out.

wtf

Their wedding was held in Penang. After having a bad experience in New York city (bed bugs, permanent scar from bunk bed), I decided to spurge a little on hotel. We stayed in Lone Pine Hotel, Batu Ferringhi. Lovely place, good service and great food. Ah.

Awesome tub outside our room

We swam here!

Timothy and fourfeetnine’s wedding was a Disney themed event. Up! was the flavour of the night.

Loads of balloons and lanterns.

There were plenty of people from the advertising industry and also bloggers. My wife and I were seated with the famous Sultan Muzaffar and Vivy Yusof and her husband. Muzaffar is now an editor at Gua.com.my whereas Vivy and her husband runs an online shopping mall, FashionValet. Internet entrepreneurship FTW!

Unlike my wedding, I managed to speak to Timothy a few times. Most of the time, it’s quite hard to get to speak to the groom and bride as they are too busy. For this reason, I usually disappear in the background and enjoy the food and company.

The hall was large and spacious

The Year 2010 at a Glance

2010 went by like a breeze. I must say it has been a good year overall – although there had been some downs. Work was enjoyable, got promoted, parents are well, A and I hit our 3 years mark, got featured in newspapers and media and so on.

I read from somewhere that one should always look back on what has been achieved throughout the year and vow to achieve better next year. It is also good to reminisce the good and bad times in a year.

Here’s a summary of it. Click on the links for the full story 😀

In January, I got featured in Astro B.yond TVC together with other fellow bloggers.

Looolllinnnggg

In the same month, my 2nd article on Putik Lada was featured in The Star. I wrote about Social Media and Law

The entry was retweeted many times and got me a cool 400 page view! I’ll be writing another article on Putik Lada again in January – stay tuned!

April wasn’t a good month as I had a streak of bad luck. It started off with a RM100 parking fine. Then Mum had an accident, my car broke down in Court and got towed, tyre was punctured and petrol leaked from my car thereafter!

But the month of April was an eye opener. Jamie Toh broke “the world record” by finishing 10 sticks of raw siham cockles.

PURE RAW COCKLES SOAKED IN BLOOD!

May marks the death of my brother in law. May his soul rest in peace.

On the same month, I travelled to Boston to attend the International Trade Mark Association conference. In the meantime, I stopped by New York City.

I met up with Timothy Tiah and fourfeetnine there as well.

You can read all my entries on NYC and Boston here.

June sparked my interest in Data Protection. I was featured in The Star newspaper in an article entitled Keeping it Private.

It spearheaded me in this data protection field and got invited by various organisations to talk about the impending Personal Data Protection Act 2010. I did probably around 15 talks on this topic alone. Work started trickling in after all these talks.

Data protection wasn’t the only topic I spoke about. I spoke about social media as a panelist in the Asian Blogger & Social Media Conference with other fellow bloggers fehmes Niki Cheong, Kenny Sia and KinkyBlueFairy.

Right after the conference, I was featured in The Star newspaper in the article “Tweet below the law

September is the month where civilians p4wned a robber. The security guards at my area caught a robber and got the robber’s picture published in a leaflet!

In November, I was featured in Klue magazine as one of Malaysia’s Top Ten Hottest Bloggers.

It was embarrassing -___-

Later in that month, the KL Bar IT Committee organised the IT Law Forum @ KDU College of Law and Business on 12.11.2010. Organising it wasn’t easy. We had so many twists and turns.

In the end, it went well!

December was an entry busy month for me. Although I took the entire month off to clear my leave, I had to go to the office everyday. Gah.

Anyway, I look forward to 2011. Happy New Year everyone!!! Have a great year ahead!

New York City: Manhattan – Part III – Empire State Building

After lunch, Tim and I walked to the Empire State Building. We were immediately greeted by a man that was trying to sell up some tickets to go up to the observation deck of the Empire State Building. The tickets entitle us to go for some sort of ride and then skip the queue to the observation deck. According to the man, there is usually a 45 minutes queue up to the deck.

Sensing that it was all bullshit, we asked the man to F off and we headed straight to the building.

The lobby of the Empire State Building.

There’s a special lift up to the observation deck. There’s a US$20 entrance fee. Farking expensive.

We also found out that there was no 45 minutes queue. It took us less than 45 minutes to get to the deck. Perhaps it was not crowded because it was a weekday.

Concrete Jungle alll thee wayyyyyyyyy!

Somehow reminds me of SimCity 2000. Awesome game. Give me a pleasant feeling whenever I think of that game!

And the view was awessooomeeeeeeeeeeeeee

The observation deck doesn’t have a roof. All they have is some metal barricades. Good place to jump off to commit suicide. Die in style yo.

There’s a small souvenir shop which you can visit after the visit to the observation deck. Plenty of Empire State Building merchandises. I remember Dad bought me a small metal Empire State Building with a thermometer next to it when I was small – which I still keep until today. Unfortunately, I broke the thermometer a week after getting it.

Empire State Building made of Lego.

After Empire State Building, we made a long long journey to a place…stay tuned for updates!

New York City: Day 1

If you didn’t know, I had to bunk over at TimothyTiah‘s hotel because I didn’t book a place to stay in NYC on my arrival night because I thought I’ll arrive the next day. All my travel schedule throughout the entire trip was a comedy of errors. I think I can have one blog entry just to blog about all the wrong things I did. I really need a PA.

Anyway, after touching down in JFK airport, I took a bus to Manhattan. It took around 40 minutes and it only costs me USD15. The bus dropped me in front of Grand Central Terminal on the 42nd Street.

And I had no idea where Grand Central Terminal was. Thank god the roads system in Manhattan were easy to understand.

Tim’s hotel is about 20 streets away hence I dragged my luggage to his place. So upon arrival at Tim’s hotel, I dropped my stuff there and we headed to Times Square thereafter.

This is Tim’s hotel room. Comes with a small toilet with frosted glass walls. Niama can see Tim’s nekked silhouette.

We had a hot dog while on the way to Times Square. I had ketchup, mustard and onions on it. It tasted awessomeee! Mustard was extra sour!

Although there was an attempted terrorist in Times Square few weeks before, the place was packed. The buildings had magnificent amount of lighted and illuminated billboards in all sorts of shape and sizes.

Even the police station and McDonalds bling-ed their signboards!

We passed by Toys R’ Us. They have a Ferris wheel inside /(*O*)\

Not to mention live size Hello Kitty with an old Asian lady dancing innit. (Picture from Tim’s cam)

That’s all for Day 1 folks!

New York City: Short Update

Hello people!

I’m in JFK airport now waiting for my flight to Boston. I’ll be attending the yearly International Trade Mark Assocation there. It will last about 5 days.

There’s free wifi here and its very fast. There’s also a booth for people to plug in their laptop and order food and drinks through a touch screen monitor. Damn hightech!

Finally my 4-day trip in New York City has finally come to an end. Jet lag didn’t kill me but it had sort of improved my sleeping habit. I’ve been waking up at 6am here everyday – a task which is impossible for me in Kuala Lumpur.

Madison Avenue

The weather had been pretty inconsistent. Sometimes hot and sometimes extremely cold. I didn’t have a thick jacket when the temperature dipped to 11 degrees celcius. It was raining too! I was shivering the entire day!

I moved to my hostel in Brookyln after bunking with Timothy Tiah for a day. I booked a single room for US$40 a night but the single rooms comes with a bunk bed. The room was quite small and doesn’t have a TV.

The area that I stayed seemed safe but there was once a black guy in a truck said to me, ‘Damn that’s a real piece of work u got there!’. I’ve no idea what he was talking about. :s

Also, it gets really scary at night especially when I walk to my hostel from the train station. There was once I got lost walking back at 130am. The street was empty and dark. If its not for GPS, I may be lost throughout the entire night!

Drunk chap in the subway. I wasn’t the only one snapping picture of him 😛

Food is provided by the hostel but it gets crowded in the later part of the morning. Waking up at 6am would skip the crowd.

View of kitchen

The unfortunate bit about the food is that they do not serve any meat, just bread, pancakes, cereals and fruits. Too healthy for me!

So far, I visited the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, World Trade Centre Memorial, Empire State Building, Metropolitan Museum of Art and Woodbury Outlet Stores.

Statue of Liberty – looks smaller than I thought it would be. It looks huge in movies!

I managed to catch a play with Timothy Tiah and fourfeetnine. It was good but it would be better if I didnt fall asleep at the ending of the play. Heh

More details about this soon!

Will update in Boston if I could!

Blog enthusiasts collect clues in a race to win Malaysian Grand Prix party invitations.

By NASA MARIA ENTABAN

IT’S amazing what some people would do to get special invites to a Malaysian Grand Prix party.

Avid bloggers and blog-readers hunted high and low in a race that began in the physical world, which then moved on to cyberspace, before they ended up racing to a physical finish line.

The event, dubbed “Spot The Raving Blogger” began on March 1 and will culminate at one of Kuala Lumpur’s most prominent landmarks, the KL Tower.

Nigel Low, 31 (second from right) was one of the first participants to show up at the ‘Spot the Raving Blogger’ race, which had contestants hunting clues that would lead them to a final meeting point. Low won himself passes to the official Malaysian Grand Prix party at the KL Tower.

On the first day of the race, participants were given a clue in The Star that identified a local blogger. On that individual’s blog, more clues were posted which directed the participants to other blogs, over the course of 10 days.

The last clue, which read, “A coffee house in the new wing of 1-Utama” led the participants to a final location – Starbucks Coffee at 1-Utama Shopping Complex where the five bloggers were waiting to be identified at 1.45pm.

Race participants reached the location panting, after they had run all around the shopping complex in search of the right outlet. The first 50 participants to arrive each won passes to the Speedzone Tour 2007, the official Malaysian Grand Prix party.

“I think this event is a fun way to give out passes, instead of the usual slogan-writing contests,” one of the featured bloggers, Suanie (www.suanie.net), said. “The clues are a new and interesting way to get people to join in.”

The five bloggers were selected based on the popularity of their blogs as well as their blog themes.

Suanie, who has been blogging for several years, usually writes on music, lifestyle and clubbing – which made her an ideal candidate for the contest.

The others who were involved were food blogger KY, 29 (www.kyspeaks.com); lawyer Xes, 26 (www.xes.cx); accountant Fireangel, 27 (www.fireangelism.com); and karate practitioner Gareth, better known as Shaolin Tiger, 28 (www.shaolintiger.com).

One of the race participants, Nigel Low, followed the clues all the way and was thrilled to win the free passes.

“I’m also glad I’m finally getting to know the bloggers in person,” the 31-year-old human resource manager said. “This contest is a very interesting and new way of doing things.”

Low is one of the many people who will be partying at the KL Tower terrace event, on April 7, which will feature local DJ extraordinaire Joey G alongside international DJs such as D-formation, Marco V and Yoji Biomehanika.

I told some of my friends about it and their first reaction was:
“WHY IS YOUR PHOTO NOT IN THE NEWSPAPER??”
