Yet another haunted hotel story

A friend told me of an incident she had while staying in a hotel in Penang. The same hotel which I had an entry about.

It was late at night. She had to move from her previous room to one room at the 26th floor as the previous room had faulty lights.

As she was settling down, she suddenly heard a group of kids running on the corridor which was followed by a woman was shouting in Malay.

My friend wasn’t bothered with the noise and in fact she was pleased to know that she wasn’t the only person on the floor. Minutes later, she had to call the receptionist to ask for something. She also took the opportunity to ask about the Malay lady and her kids running around the corridor.

Receptionist: Ma’am, you’re the only person on this floor. In fact, there is nobody staying above and below your floor.

Friend: /(*O*)\!

Nevertheless, my friend had to attend to something important the next day hence she couldn’t be bothered about it.

Few weeks later, she received a call from her sister.

Sister: Che, Which room did you stay when you were in XXX?
Friend:: I think its room 26 something something..
Sister: Remember the story you told me? I think one of the bosses stayed in the room you stayed in… He complained, “Kids nowadays don’t need to sleep one ah?? Why do they run along the corridor in the middle of the night???”.

Anyone had the same experience while staying in this hotel?

2u

I don’t know where and when the term “2u” came from but it seems that this term is widely used by a lot of companies in Malaysia. This is quite apparent in websites.
First, we have Maybank2u.com

And leno2u.com, a local fashion company.

then we have international company in Malaysia adopting the website DXN2u.com.

And now, it has hit the smaller industry i.e. the money lending industry!

Win Soon – Restaurant Ah Soon Fish Head Mee @ Kuchai Lama, Kuala Lumpur

I’ve never been a big fan of Chinese fish head noodles. However, after trying the fish head noodles served at Restaurant Ah Soon Fish Head Mee @ Kuchai Lama, I’m now a big fan of it. Other than fish head noodles, they also serve other variants e.g. prawns and fish balls. Notwithstanding the aforesaid, this review would only be on the fish head noodles.

It comes in a big bowl with generous pieces of fish meat, fish ball and ham choi (salty vegetable). To me, the highlight would be the soup itself which lead the xes.cx makan team draining the entire bowl of soup.

The vermicelli are specially made by the restaurant owner which I admit is quite tasty. There are no other types of noodles served in this restaurant other than their own vermicelli.

However, the drinks served at this restaurant is crappy. Avoid ordering custom made drinks e.g. English tea and stick to Chinese tea or 100 Plus (if you decide to order Coca-cola, make sure it comes in a can).

Me Give speech

Timothy Tiah had to give a speech to 500 people last week. I bet he was stressed before the session cause I was damn stressed when I had to give a speech to a group of 40 students. pfft.
Last week, I was assigned to give a speech about my life as an Intellectual Property lawyer in front of a bunch of students from local universities. Some senior lawyers presented with me as well. Since I was the most junior of all, I was quite stressed out. My heart went dupdupdupdupdudpdupdup whenever I think about it. I’ve never been a good public speaker and as long as I can remember, I’ve not given a speech before.
But after 2 days of intensive training, I was prepared for it.
I prepare myself by going through couple of rehearsals.
I made sure everything that I was to say was listed on a piece of paper.
I was ready to present my first speech.
So on the faithful day, the room was filled with aspiring young lawyers-to-be students, each of them eager to know about our field of practice. The senior lawyers were the first to give their speech.
While listening to them… a song started playing on my head,
it was the Will.i.am ft. Snoop dogg – Donque Song…..
She got a donkeeeeyy.. She got a donkeeeeyy … She got a donkeeeeyy…I got a donnkeeey..i got a donkeeeyyy..the donk the donkkk.. she got some mega asss

and the images of donkey grooving in a club started playing on my mind.
[I later found out that the lyrics of the song is “She got a donque..”. The word “dongue” is a slang for ass. I heard the song from the radio]
Imagine a room with a group of young students aspiring to be lawyers listening to a group of 4 lawyers talking about serious work and 1 of them had a song about donkey on his head.
So when it came to my turn, the donkeys disappeared. I introduced myself accordingly and went on blabbing. The little note that I had was actually quite distracting. I had to pause to look for the right keywords and left an awkward silence. Note to self, memorise every damn bit and less words on my little note.
Anyway, I think my speech went well although I went like a speeding bullet. Nevertheless, it was a good experience. Cant wait to do somemore!

My first payment from Nuffnang

TO ALL MALAYSIAN BLOGGERS!

FORGET ABOUT MEAGER CHEQUES FROM OTHER LOCAL BLOG ADVERTISING!! JOIN NUFFNANG AS A NUFFNANG EXCLUSIVE AND YOU’LL GET…

1) Payment Rates for both Cost Per Unique Visitor and Cost-Per-Click.
The less ads a blogger has on his blog, the higher share of voice and the less each ad will have to compete with other ads for attention. Hence, the higher the CTR and the higher the value of that particular ad space on the blog.

That is why for example you will never see 8 different ads on the same page on a newspaper unless it’s in the Classifieds where each advertiser pays a small amount.

As a result of that, Glitterati Nuffnangers will earn 20-40% more than ordinary Nuffnangers.

2) Payment Terms
In the advertising industry just like in many industries, payment from advertisers come from specific terms like 60 or 90 days. In the past, Nuffnang has used its cash reserves to pay off bloggers for campaigns that we still have not been paid for by our clients. Due to the great increase of bloggers in the Nuffnang community, we are no longer able to provide this service for all our Nuffnangers and unfortunately will have to restrict this service to Nuffnang Glitterati.

However, all Nuffnangers will still be paid in a timely manner as stipulated in the Program Table.

3) Advertorial Opportunities
Many bloggers know that while banner ad campaigns earn a decent stable income, it is advertorials that pay the most. Each advertorial depending on the advertiser, commitment and traffic can earn a blogger a minimum of RM 50 to RM 1,500 not including freebies that may sometimes be included.

In the past, advertorial opportunities were available for all our Nuffnangers. However, due to the high demand for advertorials and the need for us to narrow down which blogger of the thousands will get advertorials, only exclusive bloggers will now be eligible for advertorials.

4) Community Events
Nuffnang is known to organize the biggest community events ever which range from free movie screenings, lunch meet ups and many more. We find that in many of these events, many Nuffnangers would like to bring guests along with them and we at Nuffnang would like to oblige as much as we can.

As such, 70% of the seats for each event will be allocated to Nuffnang Glitterati AND the guests they may bring.

5) Contests
Contests among Nuffnangers have been something we’ve been having quite a lot with many bloggers winning everything from free meals at Friday’s to mobile phones or even the upcoming contest of a free trip to Gold Coast. With the high demand for these contests, we will give priority to Nuffnang Glitterati with 70% of the prizes to be allocated to them and the remaining 30% to be allocated to non-Nuffnang Glitterati.

6) Innit
Innit is a tool developed and hosted by Nuffnang to add the additional service of driving traffic to any Nuffnang blog. This tool will now only be restricted to Nuffnang Glitterati since it is within our best interest of our community not to indirectly drive any traffic to a future competing network.

The vast majority of the Nuffnang Community is already eligible for the exclusive program so there isn’t much to worry about. All of us at Nuffnang sincerely hope that this new initiative will show how much we do appreciate your loyalty.

Twentyone @ Changkat Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur

I didn’t have the chance to review this place when I visited Twentyone, a restaurant cum club located in Changkat Bukit Bintang. last year. However, in conjunction with Sharon Dilirius’ birthday, we celebrated her birthday at Twentyone.
The ground floor serves as a restaurant while the 2nd floor serves as a club, with a small dance floor which plays house music and some retro hits. The patrons range ranging from your local yuppies to foreign expats. According to Sharon, “It’s a place to see and to be seen”.

At the 2nd floor lounge
We ordered 2 bottles of Black Label to be shared among the girls. The girls on other hand ordered mocktails which I must admit was quite nice. The price is quite reasonable too. I had one delicious Strawberry Delissh. Highly recommended.

View from above
Unfortunately, the place was extremely packed which resulted in slow service. Some drinks that we ordered didn’t arrive.
Nevertheless, I would recommend this place to those who wishes to have a good night out. The place is usually pack hence please make reservations.

OUG Curry Noodles @ Overseas Union Garden, Kuala Lumpur

Located in an alley between two coffee shops, this small curry noodles stall is quite well known in OUG. Its only open in the morning (until afternoon). One can enjoy alfresco dining underneath the morning sun.

The curry noodles come in a thick curry sauce with pieces of chicken and barbecued roasted pork (char siew) thrown in it. The char siew is quite tasty – you may order extra. Further, it’s not very spicy.

Nescafe is not bad too 😀

If I’m not mistaken, the stall is closed every Tuesday.
