Purina One – Picture of Health Contest – Part III

Remember the Purina One contest I posted earlier? The results are out! Check out the press release below.

Kuala Lumpur, 8 November 2011 – Purina PetCare Malaysia Sdn Bhd (“Purina” or the “Company”) awarded prized pooch – Bie Bie – a Border Collie with the first prize in the Picture of Health Contest finale last week. Teh Kean Hock, owner of the obedient black and white furry took home RM10,000 cash and one year supply of PURINA ONE® products.

“Before I changed Bie Bie’s diet to PURINA ONE®, we were in between a few dog food brands. But now [after observing the significant improvements], we will stick to PURINA ONE®,” commented Teh after Bie Bie was announced the first prize winner. The proud owner intends to spend the prize money on Bie Bie’s future training needs.

The other two contenders were Bailey, a Beagle and Dong Dong, a Jack Russell. Bailey won the second prize while Dong Dong came in third. Second and third prize winners won RM5,000 and RM2,000 cash respectively and six months supply of PURINA ONE® products. The three finalists were judged based on five visible criteria: body condition, clear eyes, healthy skin and coat, teeth and gum health, and overall relationship between the owner and the canine.

A few familiar faces from the entertainment industry were spotted at the afternoon tea with their furry friends. Angel Wong Chui Ling, the newly appointed brand ambassador for PURINA ONE® was at the event with Fatty – a mix breed of an Irish Setter and a Bull Terrier. Amber Chia, a celebrity model, attended the afternoon tea with her Golden Retriever, Poodle and Bichon Frise. David Yee, the new host of Life Inspired TV (Li TV) channel, with Tyson, a Golden Retriever in tow. Joey G, a celebrity DJ, had his hands full with Leon, a Cocker Spaniel while Alison J Victor, former radio DJ at Red FM, looked lovely with her adorable Toy Poodle, Pom Pom.

Tim Wilson, Country Business Manager in Purina addressed the crowd with Westie, a West Highland White Terrier. “Having dogs in our family is great in so many ways. People who share their lives with pets, particularly dogs, are less stressed. There is always somebody who will listen and rarely disagrees. They [our pets] provide a common focus in the family and many people tell me they believe this strengthens their family bonds.”

Angel Wong, a Hong Kong born but Malaysia based female artiste, regards Fatty as her granddaughter, an offspring from her two dogs – Lulu (a Bull Terrier) and Wallace (an Irish Setter). In her message to all dog owners, Angel remarked that, “We can have a lot of things in life. Our doggies have only us. So do give them the best.”

The Picture of Health Contest aimed to encourage dog owners to feed their dog with PURINA ONE® and observe improvements in its six signs of health: body condition (its ideal size); digestion system; skin, coat and eyes; immune system; dental health; bone and joint health. Since then, many dog owners took up the challenge and sent in their dogs’ pictures for the contest.

In the 10-week competition period, Purina received over 200 pictures of good looking and healthy pet pooches who changed their diet to PURINA ONE®. In addition to the Top 3 winners, twenty consolation prize winners have also received RM500 cash and PURINA ONE® products worth RM160 each.

First launched in Malaysia in 2007, PURINA ONE® is scientifically developed by pet nutritionists and vets. Available in four new formulas – Healthy Puppy Formula, Chicken & Rice, Lamb & Rice and Healthy Weight Management Formula, PURINA ONE® provides specific nutrition needs to dogs in different life stages. The crunchy kibbles contain unique blend of real meat, wholesome grains and antioxidants.

Purina One – Picture of Health Contest – Part II

I used to have dogs when I was in primary school. It all started when a stray dog came to my house and gave birth to 10 puppies. We adopted the stray dog, which we named Lassie, and the puppies.

We eventually gave all the puppies away except two puppies named Pilot and Flower. That was in 1990. Lassie die a few months after giving birth. We adopted Pilot and Flower as our own.

Smiling Pilot

Angry Looking Flower

Pilot was my favourite. Flower on the other hand was an angry bully. Pilot eventually passed on but my parents hide her death from me. They said Pilot ran away. I didn’t know Pilot died years later.

I have now stopped rearing dogs. Mum now suddenly grown fond of cats. I have a few of them at home now. I hope Mum doesn’t turn into the cat lady in The Simpsons.

Anyway, do check out the doggie pictures posted by contestants on Purina One’s gallery. There are only 60 entries now. That’s like 1/60 chance of winning RM10,000!

If you’re thinking of posting an entry, you may consider doing the following:-

Add in some props like a hat

or a shirt

Also pose with Purina One like Charlie here.

Or do some stunts like this. This dog reminds me of Ping

Ong Bak!

Take A Leash, Give A Life

In return of me posting the video of Jamie Toh’s magnificent feat of eating 10 raw sticks of siham (cockles), I have to post an entry for him regarding a dog adoption campaign called “Take A Leash, Give A Life” organised by SPCA, advertising agency Y&R, sponsors Purina and 1 Utama Shopping Centre. This is on top of the RM600 my friends and I paid him for the feat.

If you have missed the “Man eats 10 sticks of raw siham and survives” video, you can view it below.

WINNER WINNER SIHAM DINNER! MAN I LOVE THIS PHRASE!

Anyway, back to the campaign. Few weeks ago, the organisers embarked on the adoption campaign via a big billboard to encourage people to adopt at 1 Utama shopping centre during the weekend. Check out the pictures below.

People who visit the booth are encouraged to take home a leash which is given free. The idea is basically to get people to start thinking about adopting a dog. If you read the Star’s article about this campaign, there is one part saying that many people dump their dogs at SPCA because they couldn’t afford it. I wonder how these people could do that – to put their dogs away. When my dog died, I cried like a f*cking bitch.

This is Pilot. My parents hide her death from me after she died. They told me that she went missing. I only found out a few years later that she died. I didn’t have the chance to say goodbye.

When my colleague’s dog died, he skipped Court because he was too sad to go to Court and had to arrange for his dog’s burial. I had to go to Court for him at the 11th hour -_-

Love really has no boundaries.

Anyway, if you’re looking for a burial plot for your pet after its dies, you may consider Nirvana’s Pet Memorial Garden.

and then you can consider an obituary for it in The Star newspaper.

Back to the topic, people who are considering adopting a pet should also drop by the SPCA Selangor. The next adoption drive would be held in Tropicana City Mall on 23-24 April 2010.

Belai si Comel Bersama Purina

The recent news about the cruel against animals at the DBKL Animal pound didn’t surprise me one bit. If you didn’t know, please refer to the extract from an article taken from here.

Members of the public are crying foul over the way stray dogs and cats are allegedly killed at the the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) animal pound in Setapak.

This is in reaction to the visuals shown over a TV3 programme 360° on Wednesday night.

The visuals which were captured with a hidden camera showed a pound worker dragging a dying dog with a loop around its neck.

To make matters worse, the “execution” was watched by another terrified dog waiting in line for its turn to be killed.
In the programme two people, who had brought the matter to the attention of the television station, said the dogs’ necks were fractured and cats were drowned or clobbered to death at the pound.

Poor animals. But this somehow reminds me of a story where a cat exploded after it was put into a microwave.

Few weekends back, A and I went over to Giant Supermarket at Shah Alam to check out the audition of the newest reality TV show – Malaysia’s first reality TV show about cats! 6 contestants will be chosen over a series of auditions. They are then require to adopt a cat and take care of them. The cat owners will be tested on various topics on cat care each week and the best cat owner will be rewarded with RM10,000!

When we were there there were 4 cats in a cage up for adoption. Passersby circled the cats and poked them non stop.

I believe the animals were brought in by SPCA. SPCA had also set up a booth to raise funds. I bought myself a nice tshirt from there. Screw Topshit and Espshit when I can buy cheap and nice tshirts and do charity.

There were a number of people auditioning for the show as well and some did really when. I’m quite amused how people can talk for few minutes to answer, “Mengapa anda suka kucing? (why do you like cats?). The only thing I could think of now is, “Saya suka menumbuk mereka (I like to punch them). wahhahahah

“Mengapa saya suka kucing?..Ahh..sebab saya suka makan kucing, dagingnya sedapppp..kalau goreng rangup macam ayam KFC! ”

Another audition was held in Giant, Kota Damansara the week thereafter. Cats were displayed for adoption again. But this time round, they gave a name to the cats..

One family came all the way from Melaka for the audition – with their cats and also with a Mickey Mouse hat…

Tim gai ngo chung yi mau ar?? Yam mai ngo chung yi sik mau, mau yuk hou hou mei arrrr… char mau yuk hou chi KFC gam hou mei!! mou tak ting!! hou mei tou emm chi yang yong!!!

This first ever cat reality show in Malaysia based on cat adoption will be aired on TV3 from 21st Mac – 9th May 2009, every Saturday, 12.30pm-1pm!
