Trip to Penang – Restaurant Kapitan’s

And after Peter and Wuan’s wedding dinner, we headed to a restaurant by the name Restaurant Kapitan’s for supper.

According to Suanie, the tandoori chicken is good.

Making tandoori chicken

Tandoori chicken!

Tandoori chickens!

Although full from the wedding dinner, we shared plates of tandoori chicken, nasi beryani and naan.

The tandoor chicken was juicy. The nasi beryani came with really nice grilled chicken and lamb. Apparently, the tandoori chicken is the best in Penang!

I was sooooo fuuullllll after eating all those stuff! I would need 10 Pushmore session to lose all the fat I’ve gained from this trip! arrggggh!!

Drinks however were crap. Although they have my favourite Teh Madras, it was so sweet until I could get diabetes for it!

Restoran Super Kitchen Chilly Pan Mee (Batu Road) @ Chow Yang SS2

Introducing my new addiction, Chilly Pan Mee from Restaurant Super Kitchen Chilly Pan Mee!

Unlike the usual pan mee that I have, this pan mee comes poached eggs. The noodles are slightly thicker and also firmer. The usual anchovies, minced meat and shallots are also mixed with the noodles.

Other than those I have mentioned, you also have a choice of unlimited amount of chili paste which you have mix with your noodles. The chili paste is a little bit too spicy for me and I usually give it a skip. However, the pan mee still taste good with it.

This restaurant has 4 branches. The one I frequent the most is the one located at Chow Yang, SS2. Map is below.

Pappa Rich

If you have been following my Twitter, I’ve been pimping Pappa Rich’s steamed bread for the past few weeks. I’m not a big fan of food served by chained restaurants but Pappa Rich is an exception.

I must say their steamed bread, which comes with a slice of cold butter and a generous serving of kaya, is orgasmic.

Taste better than its looks!

Coffee and half boiled eggs are excellent too.

However, the price is a little bit too steep. Its almost RM10 for steamed bread, half boiled egg and coffee! I could get the same thing at Yut Kee for rm5.50!

Pappa Rich has couple of branches. The usual ones that I go are those in Kuchai Lama and Uptown.

Last week, I woke up early to go to Pappa Rich for breakfast. Court starts at 9am so I have to wake up early. But when I reach there at 7am, it was closed! I was told that they only start at 9am!!! ZOMG WHY THEY SO LAZY ONE!!!! KANASAI!!!

Then today they served me with odd half boiled eggs…

Can eat one ar??

I asked the staff why the eggs are like that, she answered, “I don’t know. The chicken laid the eggs”

-_-|||

Tow Kee @ Seremban Market

Whenever I have to attend Court in Seremban, I would stop by Seremban Market for breakfast. There is one food court above the market. The food court is a treasure trove of Seremban delights!

Getting up to the food court is not pleasant sometimes as you have to go through the wet market. Sometime the stench of raw meat puts your appetite off. However, there are alternative routes to the food court. Some routes bypasses the wet market.

Some senior citizens scavenging for discarded vegetable. So poor thing 🙁

My personal favorites in the food court are the beef noodles, Hakka noodles and cuttlefish noodles. During my trip last week, I opted for Hakka noodles served at Tow Kee.

The name of this shop is identical to another shop serving hakka noodles as well. I wonder how they are related. Strangely, there is another shop by the name Sin Yee Kee which serves beef noodles and there is one stall by the name ‘Yee Kee’ which also serves beef noodles.

This time round I decided to have hakka noodles. I presume competition is stiff there as just as I walk towards the stall I had other stall owners rushing towards me to greet me.

The hakka noodles comes in a bowl of noodles with slippery texture and clear gravy. Its also sprinkled with some minced meat. The favour is in the noodles!

Restoran Hoi Yin @ Teluk Chempedak, Kuantan

This place was recommended to us for lunch. Located across our hotel, we walked to this place and immediately plonked our butts on their seats.

Getting a seat was a problem initially as the place was packed with patrons. Fortunately, a group of people left after a minute.

This place is famous for their curry noodles. That was the only thing I saw on everybody’s table. I heard the other alternative is their dry Mee Kicap.

The curry noodles came in a thick soup. There wasn’t a thick layer of oil – which I usually hate. There was only few pieces of chicken but it was enough for me.

My overall impression of the place is only mediocre. Ah Loy Assam Laksa in OUG tasted so much better.

Crocodile Rock @ Kuantan

Since we only had one night in Kuantan, we had to choose a place to eat carefully. We didn’t want to spoil our last night in Kuantan with sub standard food.

This restaurant was recommended by a friend and it is located in a one storey bungalow – with weed overrunning the compound (later found out that its not their compound but their neighbour’s compound)

Just like any other converted bungalows, the restaurant has inner and outer sections. We avoided the outer section cause we didn’t want to end up as mosquito food.

The interior looks quite cozy.

It also had many paintings on the wall.

We ordered a bowl of spaghetti carbonara and a pizza.

I must say that the food was fine. Their service was good and the ambiance was excellent!

After dinner, we hung out at the place reading one of their coffee table books. Great place to hang out in Kuantan!

Dessert @ Kuantan

Mustafa Cendol

Kuantan was boiling hot hence we decided to cool ourselves with a nice bowl of Cendol @ Mustafa Cendol.

In KL, you can get a bowl of cendol from a small stall and you probably have to eat by the roadside e.g TTDI cendol. But Mustafa Cendol must be something in Kuantan, it’s like a restaurant!

The bowl of cendol came in a stainless steel bowl, which I think makes the cendol retains its cool. It’s not too sweet – just nice!

Other than cendol, I heard that this place serves good ABC and rojak.

Keropok Lekor @ Kuantan Mini Zoo

Yes, at all places, you can get good keropok lekor (dried fish crackers) in Kuantan Zoo. Its only 30 cents per piece (or RM1 for 3 pieces). It’s crispy from the outside but soft inside.

Deep fried crab!!

However, be careful while in Kuantan Mini Zoo. I saw a monkey kidnapping someone’s keropok lekor after he walked away to take some pictures. I’ll fight to death if a monkey does that to me!!

Kemaman Kopitiam @ Kuantan

In early May, the xes.cx makan team made a trip down to Kuantan, Pahang.

When we first stepped in Kuantan, my first question was ‘Where to have lunch!?’

The answer was ‘Kemaman Kopitiam!’

So we headed towards the place, which on located on a corner lot, opposite Berjaya Megamall.

I immediately did a quick search on the internet and found a blog recommending their toasted bread and iced coffee.

So ordered their toasted bread and iced coffee plus their ‘milo king’, special nasi lemak and Myanmar noodles.

Niamah Noodles. Tasted weird.

The service was excellent. Commendable.

The interior was excellent as well. Very homey and comfortable.

But I must say their food and drinks sucked. It was no where near Yut Kee, Kluang Railway or Village Park.

Milo King – came with ice cream and chocolate chips – crap

The bill came up to RM39! Bloody expensive for a meal for 2 people for this type of food!

Upon checking, it seems that my nasi lemak with a small piece of grilled chicken and a fried egg costs me RM13.90!

Soooo not worth it! kanasai! RM13.90 I can eat two plates of nasi lemak + rendang ayam @ Village Park!

Thumbs down for this place!

But if you want to find a good place to relax and have a drink, you can head to Kemaman Kopitiam. The map is below.

What ever you order, don’t order Milo King. Damn kanasai.

Restaurant Lam Yee @ Living Food Restaurant Sdn Bhd @ Uptown Damansara

Whenever I pass by this place, I would think of fat juicy noodles dipped in thick dark gravy. But everything I pass by, my stomach is already full from Village Park Coffee shop.

However, I finally skipped Village Park for a day to give this restaurant a try.

This restaurant has two floors. It was packed on the first floor hence moved up to the second floor.

The second room was rather quiet. There were not many people but most tables were filled with used glasses and bowls. The waitresses were too busy to clean the place up!

We had to fill up a form first to order.

Few minutes later, my Lam Mee came!

After so many years to thinking about it, I finally get to put it in my mouth..waahahaha

However, it was disappointing. It was not as good as I expected it to be. The most important bit i.e. the gravy was so so. It needed a little bit more taste in it.

But if you wish to try it yourself, the map to this place is as follows:

Kota Kinabalu 2009: Restauran Malaysia @ Beaufort

After our trip to Kuala Penyu, we stopped by Beaufort, a small town located outskirt of Kota Kinabalu.

We initially wanted to try Beaufort noodles at one popular Chinese coffee shop but it was closed.

We ended up at one Muslim restaurant by the name Malaysia Restaurant. Although a Muslim restaurant, it is run by a Chinese Muslim man.

The recommended dishes of this place are their Butter Pao and Kuih Bom.

Yam cake! So-so only though.

Pao is served on a plate. Take as many as you like. The rest you can leave it there.

The butter pao is filled with butter but ‘lai yau’, a yellowish sweet filling. The bread is green in colour. It tasted damn good. So good that I had 2 pieces of it!

Kuih Bom on the other hand is an egg shaped pastry (supposed to look like a bomb though). The outer layer is as hard as an egg shell. I had to use force to crack the layer. The filling of kuih bom is hollow with few strands of turnip inside. It was my first time seeing such item and the taste was rather unique. It wasn’t sweet but it was salty.
