Asian Patents Attorney Association Council Meeting @ Singapore

This 5-days-event was tiring but very enjoyable. It is definitely better that the International Trade Mark Association (INTA) conference that I attended in Berlin. This networking filled event gave me many new contacts and even good friends. It gave me a great insight of networking and marketing.

Unlike INTA, it was not all work. I had the opportunity to meet some of my old friends for a meal and to catch up.

Since Singapore is nearby and I’ve been there a few times, I decided to take some cost cutting measure and stayed at One Florence Close again. I paid SGD88 a day. The recommended hotels e.g. Pan Pacific near the conference area were around SGD300 a day!

I chose One Florence Close because I stayed there last year and it was quite nice. However, the place isn’t as good as it was before. Things are not as ber-quality before. But the permanent residents, Pepper and Romeo are still as adorable as before.

Pepper on the bed! mmm

The people in this conference were more friendly and open. Although called the Asian Patents Attorney Council Meeting, we had observers all over the world in the conference. We had around 1300 people in the conference. The conference grew within a short span of time. The first conference had only 250 people.

Opening ceremony

I think we had around 20 -30 people from the United States. However, Laos had only one participant.

In every APAA conference, there will be an excursion. This time round, we had one in the Singapore Zoo. I had a hard time waking up as my new found friends were feeding me wine throughout the whole night at the hospitality suite. Every night there will be a lot of participants hanging out at the hospitality suite to drink and network.

The zoo wasn’t fun as most people went on their separate ways. I was fortunate to be able to meet a German guy who was alone. The zoo excursion ended with lunch by the riverside.

Lunch..

Unlike INTA, there were not many receptions held by law firms. I heard that there was one reception held by an IP practitioner’s SGD15 Million house. He had his Aston Martin/Lamborghini parked on the porch. The only reception that I went was one organised by an Indonesian firm. It was quite sad as they were not many people.

The closing ceremony was held on Wednesday and they had a performance by a local magician.

Closing ceremony

I adjourned to Clarke Quay with some new found friends to drinks at one pub which brews their own beer. On their menu, they had a list of beers which they claim taste like certain famous beer. I ordered one that tasted like Hoegaarden!

My last day was just pretty smooth sailing – no rushing and no accident. But I left a magazine and my pyjamas at Florence Close. Uh oh!

The next APAA will be in November 2009 in Hong Kong. I cant wait!

Tiger FC Fantasy League

Couple of weeks back, I blogged about the Tiger FC Fantasy League. After a few weeks, my selection of players have bore me fruits.
One of my best players, Peter Crouch gave me 23 points after scoring 3 goals from the past games. Although being kicked out from Liverpool to Portsmouth, he still hasn’t lost his touch.

Surprisingly, according to Tiger FC website, my worst player is from Portsmouth as well.
Bloody Glen Johnson, who is also another reject from a top club, got himself a yellow card. Glen Johnson was once a rising star in Chealsea but things didn’t go his way. Not long ago, he was arrested for stealing bathroom fittings and fined 80 pounds.
My defender, Nicky Hunt on other hand is not generating any points. In fact, his points were zero! I decided to get rid of him and replace him with Michael Turner who hails from new comer Hull. Currently 3rd place in the Premier League! They just defeated Arsenal 2 – 1 recently. Arsenal blamed it on lack of experience. Pfft. Hull is on a roll!
As for our mini league namely the Nuffnang mini league. I was hoping that we could become the mini league with the highest average score so that we can win some beers. My team included power house bloggers such as KY and ShaolinTiger. It would definitely be easier with them around.
But…

With a league like this..haih.. I can see my beers flying away already.

Popiah Eating Competition

Friends in my university would know me as a big eater. My diet went out of control in England and I eventually turned into a fatty.
Couple of months back, our firm’s sports club organised an event called “Popiah Eating Competition”. The competition has two main stages i.e. popiah making and popiah eating. There were four teams and I partnered another colleague to be part of the two men team in the popiah eating race.
We were given 10 minutes to finish as much popiah as we could.
I wasn’t confident in winning the competition as I’ve stopped eating a lot and went on a controlled diet. We faced stiff competition from another team which had one member who could swallow a popiah at one shop. Fortunately, his team member had trouble coping with him and ended up barfing everyone out.
My team mate and I took our time and eventually won the event with 13 popiahs – a popiah a head from the 1st runner up.
After the event, I went home and had dinner. 😀
Our ability to finish 13 popiahs were recognised couple of days ago. We were given a trophy!

Tiger FC Fantasy League

I just set up my team for the Tiger FC Fantasy League. Tiger FC Fantasy League is an online football game where you can set up a virtual team and choose your favourite Barclays Premier league players (at a certain price tag) to join your team. It’s like playing Roman Abramovich. The scores are calculated through the real life performance of the players in your team.
Unfortunately, we are only given a 115 million pounds budget to buy players and a manager. Further, we can only have maximum 3 players from a team. Frank wanted choose all his players from Manchester United. Tough luck mate.

Choose your profile! The third one from the left looks like Steve McLaren. Sure fail.
Since I have a limited budget, it took me some time to choose my players. After choosing all my preferred players, I realized that I ran out of money to buy a manager! Argh!!

Finally! My team! I wanted Berbatov as my striker initially. I got him out cause he’s too expensive.
After selling off Berbatov, I bought Alex Ferguson as my manager. But after Manchester United lost to Liverfools 2-1..

-_-
By the way, Tiger FC Fantasy League also offers prizes to be won. The highest scoring manager at the end of the season will win a fantastic prize – A Trip for 2 to the UK and RM1,000 Spending Money each!
I’ve joined a mini-league created by Nuffnang. Mini-League with the highest average score at the end of the season will win a prize.
– 1st Prize x 1 Cash RM2,000.00 + 3 crates of Tiger Beer
– 2nd Prize x 1 Cash RM1,500.00 + 3 crates of Tiger Beer
– 3rd Prize x 1 Cash RM1,000.00 + 3 crates of Tiger Beer
*Fingers crossed!

So Mudah!

My only mean of transport, my 8 years old Proton Satria is aging considerably. It no longer provides me with the cool air from the aircon and it shakes all the time. I guess its time for me to change my car.

I’ve been eying on the Suzuki Swift for quite some time now. The design is sleek and it’s quite affordable. I’ve been checking on the prices of the car on www.mudah.com.my, an online buy and sell portal which I just discovered. You can actually post your stuff online for free.

On the other hand, I don’t want to spend my hard earned cash on a car. It’s going to be a liability. My other alternative is to save up enough to buy a piece of property. It’s forced savings and if I’m lucky, I’ll get a tenant to cover up my monthly payment. I was surfing Mudah.com.my’s property listing and I note that it listed properties all over Malaysia – even Sabah. Mmm…maybe I should buy a retirement home there.

But warao, houses in Kota Kinabalu are not cheap!

Since Mudah.com.my is quite informative, I surfed the website for more stuff. And I found this..

HAHAHAHAH STUD SERVICE!!

SOMEONE PIMPED HIS DOG ONLINE!!

P/S “call me if u really want to mating with my Boder Collie condition can be puppy or cash”… What does this means? His Boder Collie can mate with a puppy or cash? -_-

Visit Mudah.com.my!

Happy Mid-Autumn Festival

While many of us had the comfort of celebrating the Mid Autumn Festival at their homes, the Member of Parliament for area, Teresa Kok is locked up at an unknown place. She was arrested under the Malaysian Internal Security Act which allows a person to be detained for an indefinite period.
According to media reports, Teresa was accused of stirring up racial sentiments by instigating residents to petition against mosques in Kinrara and Kota Damansara to lower the volume of their speakers. Teresa has denied these allegations and both mosques have come out to deny these accusations.

My area is relatively calm and so far I’ve not seen any street protest in my area.
Whatever is it, I hope that Teresa Kok will be released soon.
