Yee Kee Seremban Beef Noodles @ Seremban 1

Few months ago, one Mr Ivan Lau emailed me informing me of his newly opened restaurant in Seremban and invited me to his new place by the name Yee Kee. According to him, they serve Seremban Beef Noodles, one of the famous dishes of Seremban.

Yee Kee is a new conceptual restaurant in Seremban. It’s the first of it’s kind in Seremban and since it’s opening, it really has been the talk of the town.

Yee Kee specializes in Seremban Beef Noodles. Yee Kee is the originator of this dish and it was started way back before the Japanese occupation. It is now operating under it’s 3rd generation.

Yee Kee is located in one of the pre-war shop houses of Seremban. It’s directly opposite Public Bank. Although it’s located in a pre-war shop house, the interior is nicely done with a tinge of modernity.

Moo Moo

We manage to meet Mr Ivan Lau himself. Mr Ivan used to be IT profession for 7 years before venturing into this business. According to him, his grand father started Yee Kee in the 1930s. However, the business ceased and Mr Ivan revived his grandfather’s business with his partners.

The Old Yee Kee Shop

Although we were full from our Hakka Noodles, we couldn’t resist to try Yee Kee’s speciality, the Seremban Beef Noodles.

I must say, the noodle was excellent. The sauce is sticky and the beef, zomg, tender and chewy. I would highly recommend this to everyone!

Other than its beef noodles, Yee Kee also offers boxes of beer jerky at RM6 per box. It comes with packet of sauces. According to Mr Ivan, it’s quite popular among his customers.

Mr Ivan and myself

Business must be quite good for him. According to Mr Ivan, his business is about to break even – at his 4th month!

Tow Kee Hakka Noodles @ Seremban 1

In conjunction of the Deepavali holidays, the xes.cx makan team headed to Seremban, the capital of Negeri Sembilan for their unique dishes.

Other than Seremban Siew Pao, Seremban is also well known for their unique Hakka Noodles. Hakka noodle is made of flat noodles served with minced pork in a thick clear sauce.

Our first destination was Tow Kee Hakka Noodles. According to wikitravel.org, the said shop existed since 1930s.

The said coffeeshop is located along Jalan Lee Kim Chiap, directly opposite the Seremban post office. It’s a small shop with limited seating space. Their service was terrible – slow and unfriendly. We waited for almost 20 minutes for our noodles to arrive.

Nevertheless, their Hakka noodle was excellent. The texture of the noodles was soft but chewy. If you have time to spare in Seremban and is able to tolerate bad service, head down to Tow Kee Coffeeshop for their Hakka noodles. Alternatively, you may head to another Hakka Noodles stall at the Seremban Wet Market.

Mcnuggets and its new sauces

Saw the new promotion and decided to try it. I was always a Mcnugget fan back in the UK when I was studying. The variety of sauces in Malaysia has always been dismal, so yeah, I thought, “Why not?”

There are 4 choices of sauce: Thai Chilli, Lemon Tango, Sweet Mustard and Crazy Curry. The first two were sold out at the particular branch I was at, so I was left with the latter. The packaging reminds me so much of in-house supermarket products, don’t you think? So…… plain.

The 9 piece nugget Value Meals is priced RM9.00 (Regular) and 9.80 (Large) comes with 2 sauces, fries and a drink. I chose the a la carte, the 9 pieces and 2 sauces for RM6.90 (excluding tax).

Singapore 21.6.2007 – 24.6.2007 – Part II

As I was saying on my previous post, I spent RM140 on stamps related products. Introducing, my new babies to my post box collection 😀

Singapore is booming like mad. Shopping centres and foreigners were everywhere too. In a country of only 4 million people, I wonder if the said amount is enough to support all the businesses of the shopping centres in Singapore.

The Singapore economy is booming so fast until she had to procure resources from other countries. Lawyers are not spared. I heard that foreign lawyers are encouraged to enter Singapore to practice. I was told by one head hunter that I met in Singapore that lawyers on their first year are offered SG$4000 per month (In Malaysia, they only get RM2000 – RM3500!). Other than legal practice, lawyers are also recruited to serve in house to corporations. I was told by the same source that she had one lawyer on his 6th year being offered SG12,000 per month.

I once read from a book which described Singapore as an ‘air con’ city. It’s true. Everywhere I go, they have air con! Although it makes us comfortable, I felt that it’s pretty bad for the environment.

Eating
Throughout the entire 4 days, we took every opportunity to try the food there. Initially I thought that Singaporean food is about the same with Malaysia. Boy, I was wrong. There are so many things to eat! We had around 4 – 5 meals a day! With the boom going on in Singapore, all sorts of foreign F&B franchises started their businesses here.

Top of the M

On our first night in Singapore, we met up with Voon Him with his girlfriend Cherry for dinner at Top of the M. Top of the M is a revolving restaurant, located on top of Meridian Hotel. We were able to grab a 360 degrees view of Singapore. He said since he is unable to bring me around Singapore, he would show me Singapore through the revolving restaurant.

Voon Him treated us dinner and wine. Many thanks to him.
Just as we were about to order dessert, we had musicians singing and playing music for us. 😀

AMK House of TeoChew Noodles

Located at Florence Close (Around 2 minutes from Kovan MRT Station), serves excellent noodles mixed with at least 3 types of sauces. Their noodles make me drool whenever I think of them. :D~~~
Serves in dry and soup, I would personally recommend the dry version. Opens 24 hours a day, queue gets crazy at night.

Ajisen Ramen
This is personally recommended by fellow blogger, Sarahian. I’m not a big fan of ramen but the price is worth it. Get the Ramen Set (Ramen + Drink + Side dish) $12-18. Enough to make my stomach feel like exploding.

Ajisen Ramen is a franchised based restaurant. There is one in Takashimaya. For the list of all their restaurants in Singapore, visit http://www.ajisen.com.sg/contact.htm .

Cook With Me: Vegetable Soup

I thought I’d share with you something a friend of my friend sent to her, a recipe for vegetable soup, which my friend refers to as the V8 vegetable soup because one of its ingredients requires v8 vegetable juice.
You do know what v8 vegetable juice is, right?
The ingredients needed: carrots, celery, cabbage, yellow onions, green or red peppers (capsicum), diced tomatoes and v8 vegetable juice. That’s the original recipe. I excluded peppers here, though.

Put in all the diced and sliced vegetables in a big pot. I used: 3 carrots, 1 yellow onion, 3 celery sticks and some cabbage.
xes-v8soup-2.jpg
Next, add the can of diced tomatoes and 2 cans of v8 vegetable juice. When I say 2 cans, it’s that Coke-can size, alright? (Hehe, I’m bad at descriptions. Obviously I cannot be a chef!)
Then, add water so that the vegetables are drowned. ;D
Boil til vegetables are soft, or about 2 hours.

Amarula Cream

Michelle recommended this excellent drink to me.
Amarula Cream is another type of cream liqueur. Taste slightly fruity and caramelish.

Based on the bottle, alcohol content is 17%. Taste excellent with coconut juice. It doesn’t have the bitter alcohol aftertaste.
I was told that a bottle can be purchased from Cold Storage @ RM90 per bottle.

Sotong Mee Hoon (Cuttlefish Noodles) @ Seremban Market

Many thanks to Cheese for introducing this delicacy to me. I’ve been sick of Seremban’s beef noodles and Hakka noodles. Now with this new delicacy, I will have more will power to wake up early to travel to Seremban Court.

To Cheese: why does your noodles have more sotong than mine?!

The noodles come soupy, with pieces of fried beefpork and cuttlefish on top. The taste is quite unique. In fact, it’s quite good. And it’s only RM3!

The stall is located at the top floor of the Seremban wet market, at the section next to the section where the famous Sin Kee beef noodles stall is located (facing the post office)
